Alpine X 5.25 or MB Quart 6X8 Ref Components
Any idea which would be better:
Alpine 5.25 X series components or MB Quart Reference Series 6X8 Components. Both are about the same in terms of cost.
Power is from a 4 Channel MB Quart Amp, 100X4
No Rear fill speakers.
Sub is a MB Quart Reference 10" in an underseat enclosure.
Head unit is a Nakamichi MB100
This is all in a 2004 F150 SuperCrew
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Ken.

MB's are a little bright to my ears. I had a pair of 5 1/4 components in my last car. I think they were the reference series. They were over $400. I had the crossover set at -3 db to knock down the highs and they still screamed. I sold the car before I could get a chance to lower the attenuation to -6 db. Some people love MB's because they are so bright. To me bright means a little harsh. To each his own. You should listen to them first.

Some other manufacturers of 5x7/6x8 components are JLaudio (XR570-CSI), Infinity (Reference 6810cs) and Rockford Fosgate (t1682s). Also available on a lower scale is Alpine Type R (SPR-57LS) and Kicker (K57.2)
I would really check out the JLs at least as alot of people like the sound of the JL components.
Oh, and another thing, when checking out the speakers or before installing any tweeters, use some double stick tape and try them a few different places first to be sure you get the sound you like. Some people like the tweeters up high and some people liek them down lower closer to the mids.
