sub loudness

i really want to get some boom out of my subs, im used to 2 12s being pushed hard in a tahoe, now i have a 05 f150 4 door, how loud will 2 10s be under the seat if i really push them. i have allways used 12s and never 10s so i have no idea. prolly going to go with kicker comp 10s and a 1200 watt amp that i allready have, do you guys think that will make them really pound? or do i need more wattage or just find someone to do some sort of custom box to fit 12s. thanks in advanced guys

Bo

You can get 10's to sound just as boomy as 12's, and just as loud (in most cases). The box is a large factor. But, since about all your going to get UNDER the seat is a small sealed box, dont expect much big boomy bass. For that your going to need a somewhat high tuned ported box, or a rather large sealed box, which I dont think youll be able to fit either. For big bass you need to sacrafice something. Like bedroom and a hole in the cab, lol, or something more reasonable like ditching the back seat and making a box that takes the place of it, with a cushion on top. Thats the only way I could get the space I wanted. Theres a pic of the box in my gallery-and no, its not finished I need to put another coat of Hurculiner on it and make a cushion for the top.

Are you talking about the Kicker CompVR's or just the plain ol Comps? Im assuming you mean the CompVR's. Anyway, if thats a 1200wrms amp on 2 of those, it might be pushing it a little- keep the gains down and a smaller box and you should be good though. And dont get volume happy.

Maybe you could go with 3 tens under seat like one of the other guys on here, I would just use a lot of polyfill to get more out of the box. Then three comp vrs could handle 1200 watts more like around 1000 at 1.33 ohms. Or you could go with multpile 8s like 4 or 6, and not have to worry about any mounting depth issues. Ya but a custom box that ditches your back seat would be your best bet, with whatever you decide to go with.

i dont want to ditch my back seat, that is not an option. i didnt think you could stick 3 10s under the back seat, can you with out drilling or anything into the bed? im so lost as of what to do. i just want to get some nice bass out of it, i sometimes like to listen to rap music and when im cruzin with the guys i want it to be loud as possible without drillin into my bed or getting the seat lifted. so you guys think maybe 2 10s kicker VR would pound pretty good, or should i try to stick 3 10s back there? what do you guys think, im a newb at subs in trucks so... any help would greatly be appreciated

It's a tough thing to make a general statement about two 12s vs. two 10s, because there are so many variables to look at. You could do a bum install on two very high end 12s and a great, meticulous install on a pair of average 10s and get the 10s to outperform the 12s. If you do a great installation on two very nice 10s, then amplify them PROPERLY, I think anyone in their right mind could be happy with that. Forget what you had before if you want 10s for some reason. No matter what you had , have, or will have, they will never be "the best". There is always something better.

If you amplify those properly, they will be loud. By properly I mean using a quality amp of the proper rating that is intended for subwoofer demands. I would recommend a mono amp of reasonable quality. If you like loud bass, don't get an amp that is a little "light in the loafers", if you get my drift. What kind of amp is that 1200 watter? That can mean a multitude of things. I saw an amp at the flea market that had "1600 WATTS" on it in big red letters. I think it was a Rockwood or a Blitz, or some such name that was actually (over)rated at 100x4 RMS. And I'm sure it was at some outrageous distortion. It probably was capable of 50 watts RMS per of real usable power. So 1200 might be misleading. If you use some ratty ***, overrated amp and drive it beyond its true capabilities into clipping the signal to your subs, that's a page directly from the very popular, "How to ruin amps and subs", written by Thoti Knewwhutiwuzdoin. I know it's popular because I've met many who have read it, evidently. If you're talking about some quality watts, that's different, as long as the subs can handle that power. Don't use 1200 watts RMS with subs that can only handle 200 RMS, unless you really know your stuff.

what sub box

that 1200 watt is a piece, so i might just buy a kicker amp or something for those 2 CRV 10s. any recomendations as which amp and how many watts

also, is there a prefabed sub box that will fit 2 kicker cvr 10s in it allready? RAMSS/T, which box do you have?
