Cool F150 Screw Sound 4 Gal

Ok, I've read the audio forum to death and though some of my question have been answered (I'm audio unsavy) I thought I would turn to you for some help!

I have an 04 Lariat Screw that I'm looking to add a little bump to!

This is what I have sitting in the garage -
2 10" Kickers Compvr Dual 2OHM
MTX 800 Watt amp MXA-8001 w/gain control
Alpine iDA-X001 H/U
no box yet (that will depend if I keep both 10's).

Here's my questions:
What are good mid priced replacement speakers for the factory speakers?
What size amp should push the replaments since the 800 watt won't push all my speakers?
In your opinion should I use both 10's or only 1 10?
(I listen to everything from rap, county to hip hop. Mind you I do not
want Rice Rocket vibrate my bolts loose loud bump. I just want
good clean balance bump that's going to hit and sound good. I currently
have a 2" leveling kit and intend on putting 33's on 20's under her so I
worry about not having a jack; not a big loss if I have to take it out!)
Over all will both 10's be outragiously loud?
Where are you guys mounting your amps on the enclosure, on the back wall where?

Please help

I vote for 2 tens. I have 1 and think 2 will be better.
Alpine, Memphis, and infinity come to mind for mid priced speakers.
I mounted both my amps on the rear wall. It was a little tricky getting it out the first time but now it only takes about 5 mins to do.
50 to 100 watts for the amp RMS not peak.
As far as to loud that's up to you. It's only as loud as the volume **** tells it to be.

Also this may help on wiring 2 dual 2ohm subs

2 DVC drivers with Voice Coils in Series / Parallel
Connecting the two voice coils of each driver in series (+ to -) and the drivers themselves in parallel (+ to +, etc.) will result in the following impedances:

Dual-2 Ohm Subwoofer: 2 Ohms
Here's a diagram of it

Boston Acoustics or Polk if your wanting simple drop in coaxials

Find your speakers first, then find an amp that is close to the speakers RMS rating

The more the better I say, I would go for both. They should fit easy enough, and you already have them, along with the power to push both of them from the MTX amp. If you just install one now, you will end up installing the other one sooner or later.

Everyones definition of loud is different, but two mid line 10's sealed off of 800 watts isnt going to knock most peoples sock off if you know what I mean

Back wall is a great place. Out of sight, out of the way. There really isnt any other good spot to put them without them being in plain sight or in the way. Maybe under the front seats.

I worry about them getting really hot without any airflow back there. Anyone have problems with that?

That was going to be my next question if mounting on the back wall what about ventalation. I had to pull the seat back off when I first got the truck in order to recover my factory keyless entry code and really didn't find the room for amps.

My fear is since I won't be lifting the seat any is whether or not the amps will interject into the back of the seat and rear passenger will feel them.

I take it since you guys are suggesting to mount on the back wall that there really is no room on the enclosure? My only other option would be to mount under the driver or passenger seat but since I do a lot of snowboarding I would fear them getting kicked by rear passengers or wet by tracked in snow (remember I'm a short girl so my seat is forward! )

I do have to agree with every one the loudness will ultimately result in the volume ****

So over all the sub set up that I have is a good mid-range set up? I got a smoking deal on them from a friend

There isnt air flowing anywhere else in the cab, just like the back wall.

I have had different amps mounted on the back of my 99 (which had WAY less space than these newer models) with no problems...and one of them would get hot as chit even if you would have it in a freezer.
I have yet to hear of any problems from anyone else either.
I wouldnt worry about it at all.

TurtleT, if you have a lot of passengers, and melting snow, I would run the amps under the seats either. I had one under the seat of my 99 and whenever I had someone sitting in the back it would get kicked around and what not. Never had any problems with snow or water getting to it though, but it could happen.

I apperciate every one's feedback! I'll be mounting the amps on the back wall of the truck and installing both 10's. I haven't decided what line of speakers I will go with to replace my facotry set up yet, but in the end I'm hoping for a good clean bumb that's not too loud!

Thanks for your guy's help!

You could go with 1 sub and mount the amp where the other sub would go...as far as the snow, you could make a box to protect your amp...but I'd have to go with 2 subs though if it was my truck

dont know about the 04+, but the 03 and down have a removable molded carpet trim piece behind the rear seats. Pull that out and you buy yourself about 2-3 inches of possible build space...you can also add a mounting board with a fan on it if you are worried about heat. On the mounting board you can cut a hole behind the amp itself and mount a fan (just make sure you leave a little space around the amp itself to maximize airflow). You can run it off the switched lead going to the amp, and the ground connection...just make sure you get a fan that works with the voltage that you are pulling off the switched lead (i think its 4v, but not sure about that).

Hope all your amp problems are solved, whether by me or someone else. Good luck with your system.
