Is it worth it?

I currently have a 250/1000w Infinity Reference 10" under my rear seat (05 Screw). I have been happy with this for a few months, sounds great in the truck but no one beside me on the highway at a red light would know I have a system. Sooo...it's time to upgrade. Here are my two options:

1. A new box that holds dual 10's and two RF Shallow Mount P3's, plus an extra amp to provide juice for the 2nd 10, the one I have now will power one of them just fine, and I will just get the exact amp and have a 2 amp setup. This will run me around $365 for all of it.

2. Now, my favorite. I want two JL W3V3 (they will fit in the box I found) 10's, and the same story with the amp. The box that I found from Fox Acoustics that will fit them is about $40 more than the box I could use for the P3's. Would cost me around $500 to do this.

Would that be worth the extra $135? Hell, will I be able to justify it at all above what I have right now?

I need testimony from guys with P3's or W3's downfiring. Thanks!

i mean, 135 bucks to have the system you really want....
i say go for it.
w3's will probably be louder as they take more power and probably have more xmax (as they are not a shallow sub)
what amp are you running?

If it sounds great, and you are happy with it...then I see NO reason to upgrade. Shaking the person next to you at a stoplight is a lame reason IMO, and not worth it.

If you really want to shake something, do something more worth your money like removing the backseats and putting ported 12s back there.

you dont have to loose all your seating in the back to get ported 12's. if your wanting to shake the people next to you at the stop lights youll need more than some 10's

I guess this is where I differ from you......I do everything in my power to keep all the sound IN the truck. I do not want everybody and their dog to know I have something that they might want to steal.......

I understand everyones viewpoint. I was just making the case that it can't be heard outside of truck nearly at all to say that what I have isn't that loud.

I have pretty much decided to go with 4-0hm JL W3V3 10's. They have a mounting depth of 5.93 inches, and the with a 1/4" spacer ring, the mounting depth on the Fox Acoustics box is 6 1/8". The W3V3-4 has one way excursion of 14 MM, and this will leave 1", or 25.4 MM of clearance below the subs. I really don't see any clearance issues with this setup.

I'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes.

I'm pretty sure you're going to have some clearance issues with that enclosure and the JL 10w3v3's. You will have enough depth if you buy the 1/4" spacers but when you do that you're going to reduce the clearance between the box and floor down to 1". The sub has 14mm of XMAX (one-way) which equals roughly 9/16" and that leaves you with 7/16" left. Now the one dimension you are missing here is the height of the sub above the mounting surface of the box and I'm almost positive that dimension will be greater than 7/16". My guess is that the 10w3v3's will bottom out against the floor and end up ruining the speakers (not to mention probably sounding terrible at the same time).

Without the ring, clearance is 1.25". With the ring it is 1". That is more than 24 MM. I know the sub will sit above the clearance, but 10 MM? Perhaps. If it does, I will shim the box up a bit. If that doesn't work, then it is time for a seat lift.
