Sony Xplod speakers any good?
#2
I agree with BJays. Sony makes a nice product, but they have some significant drawbacks compared to other similar speakers. The XPlods are meant to be cranked. That's fine in a Party Vehicle, but for everyday listening, there are better choices. Their midrange is OK, but bottom end was thin. To my ears, the high end is too shrill. It's sort of a muffled sound; a sound that is kinda "cottony".
Don't worry about a "name", trapper. Do a lot of listening and get what sounds good to YOU. Ignore what your friends think you should get. You might go here to do some
homework:

You'll get an idea of what others are saying.
Check out Separates (Components). Always a better choice!! Look at DiamondAudio series (Not necessarily their expensive "Hex" line). Clear. Clean. Precise, cranked or normal listening.

Sorry my friend, I don't have them but I have listened to them in a couple of local shops. I like the looks but speakers are for sound, not for appearance. Overall, not too impressed, I thought the Bass response was pretty poor but had a nice midrange. Try to find a place that has it set up, that way you can hear for yourself.

What I've done: K&N filter, Magna flow custom exaust (From where cat's join, 3"in, two 2.5" out the rear), Michelin LTX M/S 265/75/16's, MTX Thunderform custom box with two 6000 series 8" subwoofers and Mtx 120 amp.
Plans: Lund hood deflector, superchip, Poweraid, Xenon sport Flares, (custom ram-air idea?)

Sony has great LOOKING speakers. Problem is for the price you could get a much better speaker (as far as sound quality "SQ" goes). Try the infinity 6x9/5x7. They sound pretty good. If you are looking for something for your front sound stage i always recommend component systems. This is of course if you are looking for sound quality. Best thing to do is just go to a shop where they have a bunch of speakers hooked up and listen for yourself. Just rember to look and see the power they are sending to those speakers because sometimes they'll sneak a kickass amp in there and you'll get the speakers home and hooked up straight to your head unit and they'll sound nothing like they did in the store.
Good Luck!

Thanks,I almost bought some Sony component speakers the other day. It was the 5 1/4" set.
I also thought they sounded a little thin on the top end,and the bass response didn't impress me either. It took some doing to get them to turn off the twelve inch L7's,like they didn't want me to hear them? Oh well, what do you guys think of Fosgates' component speakers?

I am a big fan of my Boston Acoustic RC 61 rallys 6 1/2 and 1" tweet. Nice sound. Now I need to flush mount them to make them look good. I dunno whether that will affect the sound tho. I hope not.

SCREAMER: I dunno, bud. Maybe I'm just hypercritical. Dollar for dollar, IMHO there are "better" speakers out there than Foz. Foz makes a reasonable product, but for what I'd plunk down, there's other stuff that's superior. Know what I mean? I was dead cert that JLAudio components were aces. Then I heard DiamondAudio seps (not the Hex) and there was no comparison! Superior construction. And they were even cheaper.
Then again, your ears (Everyone's ears!) are gonna here things differently. For me, it came down to listening to a LOT of diff. speakers. But I kept going back to those Diamonds. Dang they're sweet!

I see what you mean, although I've bought cheap speakers that have surprised me before. One pair of 6x9's I bought at Wal-Mart had a cast aluminum frame, and sounded the best of any 6x9's I've ever listened to. I think they were Roadmasters!LOL.....I never saw them again after that, maybe they were too good, hehehe. I had them mounted in some home speaker cabinets, and slid into the storage area of my 79 El Camino,(my low budget days, lol) It sounded like I had two 10" subs mounted back there ,,,,,,98
