Question Factory

I realize much of audio depends on personal taste, but just how bad (or good) are the factory speakers and head unit in the 2001 f150s? I have a loaded Lariat Screw with "premium" (and I use the term loosely) system with 6 disc changer.

I'm no audiophile, especially when it comes to car audio, but I can't say that the system sounds bad. I could use a subwoofer (just ordered a custom box for a 10") but the factory speakers don't sound bad and actually seem to have a little thump. Even the mids and highs are pleasing.

I had installed a Kenwood MP3 head unit (took it out until I decide if I'm going to upgrade the system) and it didn't deliver the same sound as the factory system, mostly due to the fact I need an amp if I'm going to have an aftermarket HU.

Are the factory speakers for 2001 "premium" system any different from other f150 speakers for this year? Do they differ from year to year? Are they paper thin as is normally the case with most factory speakers?

New to the game, full questions, but love the SCREW!

What your take?

Been there

I have he same vehicle. I was not going to upgrade the system ... but when I found the Blaupunkt Tokyo and In dash changer for $314 dollars, it seemed too good to pass up. Ordered the system on-line and the speakers did not arrive until a few days after I had the system installed. The factory speakers sounded OK. The salesman said he was impressed. I had the Kenwood KAC-849 4 channel amp hooked up to them. The highs left a lot to be desired. The MB Quart speakers are impressive. I have 5x7 in the rear and 5.25 components up front.

For the sub I am very weak .... I bought the Kenwood KSC-WA62RC. It does a decent job of bringing full rich bass, but does not RATTLE the car. It has multiple adjustments. I do not overdrive the bass and sometimes I have to turn it down. It will distort but not as bad as the small bazokas. Your 10" sub should work out great.

The next additions for me are going to be the Blaupunkt DVD unit and screens. The DVD unit plays MP3s as well. That can wait until closer to vacation time.

Thanks for the reply. How much difference did you notice between the factory speakers and your new set-up? did the facotry speakers feel like junk? I have a Kenwood MP8017 HU from another car that plays MP3s and audio CDs and I love the fact that I can get 6-7 albums on 1 disc. It eliminates the need for a changer (especially if I'm considering using the center console as a sub enclosure). In my old car the HU sounded great and this is the whole motivation to change out my factory system and speakers.

I noticed you have the Westin bull bars w/skid plate. Did you get a deal on them?

The factory speakers are junk. I replaced them with Infinity Kappa Perfect's and it was like night and day.
