4 or 8 ohm???
hey dudes,
I'm back into wanting a system for my truck. I was pretty doubtful and put it off for a while but I still think a good set a subs with a desent amp will satisfy me just fine. Now I was thinking of getting 2 18" Cerwin Vega Strokers (LMAO! I'm kidding ) no seriously though, I want a 2 channel amp and bridge it. Now when I go to buy subs should I buy 8 ohm or 4 ohm subs to make 4 ohms on the amp. Kinda rusty with my car audio these days, hehe Hey tks guys

well personally i would look for a 2ohm sub or even possibly a 1 ohm sub simply bc that will be your cheapest power and most 'sub amps' put out thier max power at 2 or 1 ohms.
but if you have to pick either 4 or 8 definately 4 ohm youd have to pay a lot to get a good amout of power at 8 ohms...and most car audio is at 1 2 or 4 ohms

You could get two 8-ohm subs and make a 4-ohm load by running parrallel wiring... Or you could do what that guy above said and run two dual voice coil 4-ohm subs and have them run 2-ohm each per channel on yer two channel amp. I'd recommend Infinity Reference Subs or Cerwin Vega HED subs if you want bang for yer buck subwoofers....

There are alot of factors in deciding this........MAINLY what can you amp handle.........1ohm stable......(doubt it)........2 ohm stable(doubt it too)...........most amps say 2 ohm stable, however they mean in stereo mode, not bridged, 2ohms stereo means 1ohms bridged.
I would buy the most efficient subs you can buy for the money you want to spend, if your amp can handle lower impedences like a class D or class X, then go with lower impedence subs, like two 4 ohms wired for 2 ohms, whenever you can, avoid wiring your subs in series, there is actually a voltage drop in series configurations thus causing a loss of power to the voice coil.

tks guys for all the responses, however, I recently put car audio to off to the side as it gets expensive and there so much information to remember and understand it. I will have to really think on this as to what I want for what my budget says so. Also, will I need a bigger alternator and battery to match? I don't plan on nor want to go anymore than 500 watts per sub. I am not going to run neons or anything like that. But it seems though a bigger battery and a bigger alternator to match the battery seem in order here. What do you guys think? tks again
