There's a thread here somewhere...too lazy to look for it. (It may be on that "other" F-150 site)...

At any rate, someone put a temp probe into an open-air element aftermarket air intake. No heat shield, filter exposed under the hood.

His results were just as you describe, desperado.

When the truck is stationary, underhood temps rise. But once moving at most any speed, the circulation of air caused underhood temps to drop to just above ambient.

Putting the IAT probe at the throttle body provides the ECU with the most accurate reading, as this air is fed directly into the engine. Not routed through the intercooler and all the piping.

I am running a powerdyne with 8# of boost and a vortech aftercooler. Did some datta loging with auto tap on a 90 degree day normal highway driving air charge temp was 97 to 100 degree on a 2nd gear pull from a stop to redline temp climbed to 121 degree and went back to 100 with in less than a minute, my iat is with in 2 inches from the trottle body in the 3 oclock position when I compared results before aftercooler install on a 72 degree ambient without aftercooler doing a pull on the exact piece of road I had temps in the 185 to 195 range and on other occasions well over 200 degree and cruise temps at 72 degree ambient were in the 120 to 130 range. My timing was advanced by 3 to 4 degrees comparing 72 degree ambient and 90 degree ambient. The iat realy pulls timing with the slightest temperature rise.

Thanks for the info guys, I love seeing actual numbers like this. Very valuable stuff. Thank you too ganiman for the offer. I will let you know when / if I score a kit. (crossing-fingers) BTW, I love that hood and 3 core poking out there.

Re: Cool Hose Clamps
I got mine for a fortune at a custom truck shop in SoCal, but crash showed em off recently. He is selling them. Let me find that link...open new window...search...ummm...can't find it.
CRASH!!! Did I see that on GotPressure? I'm sure you showed those off somewhere. Can you jump in and tell us?

You Betcha!

I posted this so you know what to look for in your rear view mirror going down the 405 (and you can't shake it)
Then all you'll see is this (but the lid will be down)

Do you regularly drive down the 405 backwards?

Yeah Crash,I got that totally backwards..
You see I suffer from self induced dyslexia, which is usually accompanied by a severe case of a.d.d,and dry mouth. It lasts a few hours then just fades away and I return to a fully functional person.

<-----and this is how it starts

desparado, nice setup man...love the Cobra hood, but are those flames on the IC too? SWEET!!!

ganiman,

Crash!, are you saying the IAT relocation requires a custom tune? And it can be done by swapping two pieces of tubing supplied in the kit? Does it require you to lenghten the IAT wires?
