5.4l Turbo

I was wondering what size turbo would be a good application for a 5.4 2v. would a single t3/t4 remote mounted work? and if so could i just use this kit and make it work for my truck? http:http:////cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Ca...=p4506.c0.m245 I am new to turbos so i am not too sure what i all need, and what would be a good turbo for a 5.4. I think because the engine is made for torque with a low red line that i would like to start to build boost at 1.5x1000 rpm or maybe even 1.4x1000rpm.... is that right? any info would be grate. also i am looking for a cheep way to do this. because i am in college and don't have a lot to spend, but i know how to fab up some stuff, and some of my friends are welders and machines so i can get work done for free.

heres a good one for your 5.4l ;-) http://www.turboneticsinc.com/produc...category_id=91 (that price is a bit high u can find them for a lot cheaper)

atleast if i had a 5.4l thats what id go with... but it woudlnt be a remote mount...

stay away from ebay turbos unless its a garrett, borg warner, turbonetics, master powers, precision etc.. brand names...

if u think a quality turbo kit is 800 dollars youve got it all wrong.

sts quote I got on kit 2003 f-150 5.4 4x2 was a gt-76-r comes with predator sts custom tune larger injectors etc definetly not the cheapest route but pretty complete kit though.

Read what the universal kit is recommended for; Suggested for 1.6L to 2.3L engine up to 150-400HP.

Ya'll need to keep in mind that the turbos STS uses have much smaller turbine housings. Not much good running a 76mm compressor when you can't extract the exhaust energy to drive one efficiently. A small frame 76mm with a proper AR hotside can flow enough air for 900hp efficiently. Mid frame 76's are good for over 1,100hp...

when i posted a 76mm i was not refering to building a remote mount kit.

everyone here seems to be so into sts. sure sts is proven to work but its not the only option.

That's why I quoted who I quoted...

Also that turbo you posted is vastly overkill for anything but a street truck with a tune set on kill. A small frame Precision 76mm would be less that half the cost.

The one on the left...good. The one on the right (very nearly the one you posted)...not so good.

I would think something like a Garrett GT4088 with a .81 precision housing might work pretty well and they are a pretty descent "bang for the buck" turbo.

Exclamation 5.4 STS turbo intercooled 4x4

straight scoop on the remote turbo is 1) if you are racing it dont add an intercooler (for remote applications) 2) if you havent upgraded the pistons and connecting rods, dont go past 450 HP 3) the T3 mid frame will work on a remote frame as STS tools all the turbos to make them lighter so they dont need the excess gases straight from the header 4) if you have the money you can use the roller bearings for faster response and finally 5) for a quicker response you can use a .65 or .81 A/R ratio from the cage to cause faster spool up (the missing intercooler will help on this too)
the .65 is too fast a spool up for most street applications and runs out of boost too early. try the .81 with a .6 or .7 atm spring. remap the ECU for more gas and have fun!

item 1 was dont add the intercooler unless you are racing it.
