want to supercharge but have a lot of ???'s

Hey i have an 2001 5.4l 16v f150 and i am looking to upgrade to a 2003 with the same engine. I am looking to supercharge the new truck but i have a lot of questions. What are the best root type superchargers in terms of power gains and quality?? how much do they cost? and where can i get dyno tuning done?? your help is greatly appreciated.

Your best bet would be a Lightning or Harley intake assembly.
Plan on spending 3 to 4K

Do the lightning or HD intake manifolds bolt up to the 2 valve engine?? arent they 3v?? and will i need everything from the lightning or HD like throttle body, manifold, MAF, and anything else involved with the intake?
thanks for your time..

Yes, the Lightning & Harley intake assembly is for a 2V engine.
You will need everything in that pic plus this list of parts.http://www.madenterprise.com/scparts.htm
And you will also need custom tuning to make it run.

Make sure you get an intake/SC assembly from a L from 2003. Technically the HD SC is the same as the lightning but came from the factory with 6 PSIG of boost Vs the Ls 8 PSIG of boost. I believe this was done with a larger top pulley. If this is the case you will not make as much boost with the HD SC.

If you opt to got the "factory stock" method after you find a good intake seek out www.MadEnterprise.com for the missing pieces to your puzzle. Stay at or below 10 PSIG of boost on a stock bottom end and you should be fine for tens of thousands of miles. I have about $4K in my L SC Swap.

Your other option is to go the Whipple route. The plus is the Whipple makes more power for a given boost level. How you say, it is more efficient which equates to lower manifold temps and lower parasitic drag to drive the SC. The down side is the Whipple costs between 70 and 100% more than an L swap.

Whipple dose not make a blower for an 03. Nether dose KB anymore! So that is not an option at this point.
In order to put a Whipple on a 2V 5.4 you would first have to have done the L swap. Then you can take off the Eaton M112 and replace it with a Whipple Lightning upgrade blower.
Just like I replaced my M112 with a Kenne Bell Lightning upgrade blower.

Yea I would say lightning or hd supercharger conversion would be a great route to go. Im working on getting all my parts together for it right now, and everything is only going to total $3000 and me and my dad are installing it ourselves. Once i get everything and start installing it, i should be able to answer a lot of your questions if you choose to go that route

If you shop well, you can do easily for under $3K. I spent about $2600 including tune. Swap is not hard, but saying that means that you start with a 01 to 04 L or 02/03HD with a "complete" intake up through throttle body. And then you still need a lot of parts. Only difference is upper pulley and color on 03 HD (ie black vice silver).

If not, then there a lot of wires, vacuum lines, brackets, bolts and sensors to find. And even then you need a lot of parts! Most of which you can buy off of NLOC or NHTOC forums or get from MAD.

Buying just a supercharger will cost you a lot of time and money!

If anyone wants instructions let me know. I have taken MAD's and modified after I did my installation. Just send email.

Is there a company that sells the complete Lightning or HD swap or you have to buy all the parts separately? Or someone has a detailed list of the parts needed? Because it seems that there are a lot of parts and work involved in doing this swap.

Read post #2 & #4
No,
no company sells the complete setup.
Find a kit like in post #2 on ebay or classifieds on here or other ford sites.
Or you could buy the one I have.
Then follow the link in post # 4 for any parts you might need! Mike is a great guy to deal with and he can help with any info you may need.

Sounds like a lot of work but many have done it and most will tell you it's a walk in the park.

As stated no complete kits, not even MAD. Look in classfied section. There were 2 in the last 6 months. Probably still available. No complete parts list either.

Well that is a no brainer, if i can get an engine for that much then im just gunna buy it instead of a SC. Where are you at that you can get a full lightning engine for $2200???? And can you put a lightning engine on a manual tranny??
