Supercharging a 2003 F-150 Boss
I just bought a 2003 Boss F150 5.4 with 17000 origial miles. I drove the lightning and loved the HP, i saw the boss and loved the tuner look. I am looking to get the best of both worlds. I want to get this
It looks to me that my choices are and Eaton Super Charger which might be what was on the Lighnings or an intercooled Procharger set up. the Eaton will give me more low end tork while the Procharger will give my a broader power band.
I am leaning toward the Procharger, but I am looking to those with experience to guide me before I make this investment.
I am also looking for other mods that will give me some bang for the buck. I have a few bucks left to put into the unit and I want to create something that will prove hi smiles per gallon.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

If your using the truck as a truck, the positive displacement offer torque advantages in the low to mid range. And if you look hard you can get into one for say $2500 with software and truck will look stock. See threads on this board. Good deals are still out there.
As you may or may not know Ford did not build the Boss, it was done by LA West and then sold at dealerships like a van conversion. I also have an LA West F150, but mine is an extended cab with step side and it was badged as a GTX. I also have done L conversion. Not that hard and the torques is amazing, especially running over 10lbs of boost.

I have done one of each
The procharger kit in stock ATI form isn't the best but a couple upgrades and it'll suprise you
If I had to do it all over again I'd run a D1sc head unit, 3 core intercooler, long tube headers, a low restriction intake, a good fast acting bypass valve, 90mm Lightning MAF, 39# or 42# injectors and the ATI boost-a-pump
I did a lightning conversion real cheap as well
*edit* majority of people prefer the positive displacement superchargers but at the same time many enjoy the centrufigals and turbo charged trucks

This is great feedback from everyone and please keep it coming. I woudl have never have guessed that I would have gotten this much feedback in only a few hours.
Like the rest of you, I am enjoying the truck as is, but looking for more. I bought the truck because I thought it looked really cool and noone around here has one. I had the itch to buy a new car, but thought this would be more fun. I have 2 69 Mach Is, bith 428 Ram Air Cars, but sometimes you want a few more creature comforts.
I was familiar with the conversion company, but I am still trying to learn more about the stage of conversions that they offered. I looked at a couple of Boss trucks that had the roots style blowers on the, but #1 wasnt sure if Boss did that or if it was a dealer add on, #2 thought that SuperCharger technology has come a long way since 2003 and thought I would build with todays best.
I am learning from all of you and thanks.

Ford did not do antything to the Boss. It was done by LA West and none of them came from the factory or dealership with a supercharger. The conversion was just cosmetics. Underneath was an XLT with Sport and Tow package. Nice looking trucks, thats why I have mine.
And I would grab Phils supercharger, especially if it looks like this.

What Vortech did you have? If the Eaton made more power I'm guessing it had to be an A-trim. I sent a Eaton off to Stiegemeier for a port job for a 03 Cobra and we maxed it out at 16.5 psi. and 476hp. is all it made. An intercooled T or XY-trim Vortech would have almost doubled that. Centrifugals are a little more efficient.
