If they're 305/50s, Toyo lists the OD as 32" which is the stock tire diameter on the 4x4s. The stock tire size on the 2wd seems to be 30.5".

Can I make a suggestion? For improved towing power I would suggest a 3" si/so cat back exhaust with a straight through muffler i.e. Magnaflow, borla, dynomax bullet, ect. Get it regeared if that is something these guys suggest. Do the DWV intake mod and get it all custom tuned. I would suggest a tow tune by PHP. Just my .02

he usually hauls a 24foot car trailer with there hunting supplies and avt or a car out to montana and wyoming so yep strait over the mountains .

I know he wont regear, already has dual exhaust but want s to quiet it down i think he may go with the single exhaust kit from banks or mbrp and will be doing some custom tunes also as well as a cold air intake. but he was looking into the supercharger as a option..

he won't regear but is willing to supercharge???????? WTF?????? adding more power while maintaining a crappy gear will be deadly for the poor transmission...

I bet with a regear he'd be a lot happier

It would also be a lot cheaper then buying a supercharger kit!

I could understand the decision not to regear. With his current configuration, you'd be turning between 2,800 and 2,900 in third gear at 70 mph. Pull a large trailer like that through the mountains and I'm thinking I wouldn't be using overdrive.

If he wants diesel like torque he needs a positive displacement blower, but then if he has a 3v motor it will costs him a lot, so gearing is his only other option

I know running a higher gear seems like it will kill gas milage but not as bad as you think. Expecily when dealing with hills, 24ft trailer full of stuff is a heavy azz trailer with stuff in it. I just put in 4:10 gears over stock 3:55 and it put me around 2300rpm at 70mph with 31" tires. With the 3:55 is was pulling 1700rpm which is alot less rpm. But the truck is not working as hard to maintain the same speed and I am going up some prety steap hills. But so far my milage has not gotten worse. Just tell him to put one size larger tires on the truck or just not drive so fast. With the higher gearing, the rpm will drop quicker. Insted of going 70 mph just go 65, plus it is less wind resistance which helps. The 5.4 sweet spot is around 2100rpm so you want to keep it near there.

I say just tow the trailer and see what it does. As long as it can tow in drive or second with the torque converter locked and maintian a good speed. Tell us the results and we can tell him where to go from there.
