supercharger and towing
I have a buddy who just converted from dodge to ford and is a little dissapointed in the power. of the 5.4 compared to the hemi. (he previously had the cummins)
it has 33"s and 20" rims and that may be part of it and
and he is considering adding a supercharger but also pulls a 24 Foot enclosed trailer from mn to mt.. I dont know why hes planning on going this route in the first place..(selling the diesel anyway)
anyone tow anything similar like travel trailers or enclosed trailers. in colder climate areas.

hes in the same boat i was kinda in.. tow once or twice a year so we didnt need the diesels just sitting there while we drove a second car..
with the economy in the crapper here it made more sense to have 1 payment ,insurance, ect.
but still gotta tow.. thats where i told hm ahead of time that teh supercharger cost would defeat the whole downsizing theme

if he does supercharge it he may want to look into doing it through the dealer. My local dealer offers the FR supercharger and Roushcharger aftermarket and they will warrenty it. This way if something happens while towing he can bring it back in under warrenty.
Also a nice tune for the supercharger wouldnt hurt. I know troyer offers a deal where you can have 3 customs tunes set to you....performance/ economy/ towing. Good Luck!

If I was towing a couple times a month I would go diesel as well. I towed a 24 ft car trailer with my truck before the blower and could barely go 65mph on hilly roads. Even when I was trying to draft tractor trailers. Now with blower I can accelerate up any hill. Most time the cruise is set and noramlly running OD as well. And yes I know the manual says you shouldn't tow in OD.

Put some 4.10s in it.
I run a 32" tall tire on 23" wheels and with my stock 3.55s it was killing the power.
I swapped to 4.10 and it pulls fine now.
That was before I added the supercharger.

I quess we need to define alright. On the NA side I was pulling a 24 ft car trailer which has the flat plate drag of a house on hilly roads and fought it all the way. I had 3.73 with 32in tires and 87 oct tune. It was bad, but then good for me is being able to select OD and cruise. Now with Eaton, I can accelerate up any hill/mountain at any speed and with any load truck is cleared for. Now thats what I'm talken about.

Can we get a little more info on your buddys truck so we can aim him,you in the right direction?

Im gussing your buddy never towed that trailer with the hemi, then you can talking about driving a terd.

He has a 2007 Crew cab short bed 25,000 miles with 305/50/20 tires 3.73 gears dual exhaust.
planning on a cold air intake. and diffrent exhaust.
the last truck he had was a 2008 6.7 Cummins dually crew cab with 19.5 rims and banks kit. he never owned had a hemi. truck prior to that were 1999, 2003 and 2005 cummins
