Ok so the verdict is.......450/450ish to the wheels, my 4.88 gears and a 33"-34" slick launching in 2wd and I MIGHT hit a high 12 but most likely a low to mid 13 and be able to run it on the street safely......right?

I'm still on the fence about all this and wonder if my money is better spent on a classic mustang

Buy the stang. Your looking at some serious coin to get a 6K# truck to run 12's and last long enough to drive it home.

Thats why I said 5300 lbs, if my truck weighs 5300 and I'm 4x4, the JDM should weigh ~5K

I agree. I see them running 12s with an intake, tune, exhaust, and DRs. If I would have spent the same money modding a mustang that I did on my truck, I'd be running 11s.

If I put the money I did in a stang I would be running 7s or 8s.

Pull your engine and tranny out and drop them in a "new edge" Mustang. I bet you would.

I'm actually considing building a lightning motor with a 3.4L whipple and dropping it in a new edge. I'll "go fast" then.

I would be happy just to put my stuff in a little single cab truck.

I don't like mustangs,,,there's just to many of them on the road.

Thats the thing, Ok awesome you have a 12 second stang.... When I go to the track, I see maybe 5-10 trucks total, and the rest are GTOs, Stangs, Vettes and old muscle with alot of imports. So out of 500 cars there, there are 10 trucks. Now if you run 12.9, that makes you one of the fastest if not the fastest truck out there, and it makes you faster then 400 of the cars easy. 6000lbs of *** whoopin.

Well when AZLOC shows up a 12.9 wont mean ****, but you get what I'm saying.

Either way its going to require some custom work to run a full slick on the back of these trucks. I think the redrilled wheel and spacers is the best option.
you have to grind the rear calipers to run 15" wheels on a rear disk brake '97-'03 truck without spacers

Warning: LONG post

A few random thoughts:
I would down load a drag math program and see what kind of power you need to go 12's and work towards that. It is kind of backwards to hope that 500 will get you int he 12's. It might and it might not. To run the best possible time you need to be at your redline when crossing the traps. There are programs that will also calculate that for you too. You need the actual race weight with you in the truck to calculate this. Once you have a rough idea of what it will take you can cost out what you will need to have done to the truck. I have 350 at the wheels, weigh 5200, 3.55:1 gears with 33's and run high 14's. I cross the line in 3rd (manual tranny) 3400 rpm. I have a long way to go before I get to redline in 3rd. Just going to 4:10:1 will get me closer to 4000 rpm in the traps. I haven't changed the power output of the engine so I will not blow it up but I will have knocked a few 10ths off the E.T. You don't always use the full potential of your engine when daily driving but you should always build it to take it. So take the suggestions presented by others and do some research. Or you could just build the sucker run it and see what it does then fix what breaks.

.

I appreciate all the input guys......

Although I do agree that my truck in the 12's would be cool and a lot more unique than a car, I'd rather spend the same amount of money and have a much faster car and complete peace of mind when driving my truck everyday.

Even though they've only been on for a week, I'm going to be taking the Saleen suspension and the 305/50/20's and Lightning wheels off and replacing them with a leveled suspension and some 33's I think. I'm already looking at classic Mustangs too

Keep your wheels and put on a set of 305/55/20's, they're a 33" tire and will fit those 20 x 10 lightning wheels.

But if you decide to take them off, I know a guy in Ohio who would love to have them.

I'm going with a more aggressive offroad tire....something like a Toyo mud terrain or MT MTZ......haven't decided which 20's to use yet as i have 3 full sets of 20x10's w/ bsing ranging from 4.5-7.125. I think selling the lightning wheels and keeping one of the other sets would be the most economical at this point.
