12's or bust!

I have an 08 FX4 Screw that I just recently dropped with the Saleen sport suspension and am running some 305/50's on 20x10 Ford Racing Lightning wheels. I had the intent of throwing a good supercharger or turbo on it to attain roughly 500rwhp and 500rwtq. I was hoping that that combo, along with the 4.88 gears I have in it, some good slicks and possibly a 4 HI launch would net me high 12 second time slips. Those hopes were recently crushed by a fellow member who thinks(knowledgably) that I would only see high 13's/low 14's with that set-up. It's got me thinking twice about the path take with this truck. It's my DD and it will stay that for the next 4-6 years.

Can anyone add some advice or knowledge to this? Are 12's attainable or not?

Thanks in advace!

Coming from a non-boosted guy, 12lbs and 4hi launches don't equal a 4-6 year DD without tons of money and headache. But I am sure the headache goes away when you hear the SC whine

As I've stated, You will have a hard time hitting those numbers in your truck. Nothing is impossible.

I do think that FX4matt is running 13.7's in his screw 4x4.

So I very might could be wrong, and 500/500 in the right conditions would get you a high 12. Even I think though that is going to be lots of stress on a stock truck, and to get that to last it's going to cost some serious mod $$$

4wd will be hard, however the smallest rim you can go is 17s which only dragradials will fit. 500RWHP may shoot a rod out the block unless its a very very good tune.

500rwhp/tq will remodel your block over a period of time. The transmission and transfer case might not like the hard launches on slicks much either.

If conditions are right, you might get that high 12 a few trips down the track. A new engine/transmission/transfer case will probably come soon after.

You might be able to get that if the front end and transfer case holds up. I have a best time of 13.6 thats with the stock wheels and roll into the throttle launch, with some slicks I think I could hit 13.4's. Its all about how many cubic $$$ you have

So with 419rwhp/456rwtq, stock 32" tires and stock gears(3.55 or 3.73?) you hit a 13.6? Are you 4wd or 2wd? If 4wd, did you launch in 4 Hi or no?

I would think that with 450rwhp/450rwtq, 4.88's and 28" slicks, I'd be able to hit 12's and not break much.....am I way off here?

I guess what I'm getting at is....What makes your truck so different than mine that it can run 13.6 with what you have and I am pushing it to think I'd be able to run 12's with more power and torque, steeper gears and smaller tires?

Thanks for the compliments about when it was lifted. I haven't taken any pics of it lowered yet. Just got her back last Friday. I busted my rear window and want to get it fixed before I take any pictures. Also, haven't had time to clean er up good and I just got the new flares on yesterday. I might go take some pics tomorrow but I might wait until next week sometime after I get the window fixed.

Completely different truck now in virtually every aspect...

I don't expect by any means to be able to beat the crap out of my truck continuously for the next 4-6 years and have it last w/o breaking stuff along the way.

$$$$ along the way for broken stuff is a sure thing if you ask me.

You ran 12psi 450/450 w/o any problems on your stock block truck correct? Is that too much to expect for my truck for the next 4-6 years? Will 50/50 put that much more stress on things?

JDM/MMFF claim their saleen truck runs 12.8's and claim 475 rwhp at only 12# on a saleen blower and just bolt ons with stock internals, Yeah OK. Personally I think they have done a lot more to the engine and they are stayin tight lipped about it. Even if their truck is a 2wd scab, your gonna need more than 475 whp to run 12.8's with a 5500# truck on 23" wheels. JDM has a video on their site with that truck running high 12's so I know it can be done, and they claim they tow with this truck and have put over 40K miles on this setup.

Try to find an E.T. calculator that lets you input weight and desired e.t. and will tell you hp needed, put in 6K# for the weight and 12.99 for desired e.t. and you will be surpised at the required hp it spits out.

Am I the only one here that thinks that the 4.88 are giving me a decent advantage?

I agree with you about the JDM Saleen truck being fishy.....

I looked at 4 different et calcs. just now and they all stated 541rwhp to get to a 12.99. That doesn't take into consideration overgearing and smaller slicks though does it?
