Jeff,
I'm not sure about fitting 33's on a newer F-150, but my question to you is why change your rims to 16.5's? You can easily get the equivalent to 33's for a 16" rim without having to shell out the extra money for rims. If you just want to get new rims for the looks than I guess that's up to you.
If you have a good tire shop they should be able to mount the tires and rims on your truck to test if it fits properly. When you do this, pay attention to how the front tires fit under full compression at full lock to make sure they don't contact any sheetmetal or any suspension components. That's my .02.

Hey Todd. I was concerned about the extra $$$ for the 16.5's and was gonna settle for wider 16's until American Racing Added the Ford F150 bolt pattern to their 16.5's. $120.00 a piece. Not bad Huh? The reason for going to the 16.5's is because of the abundance of tires for that size VS the lack of choices for the 16's. I wanted 33x12.5x16.5 BFG Allterrains. Now I can get them. Before I would have had to get 295/75/16's which aren't as wide and cost about $40 bucks more per tire.
To answer the original ??? I think it would be a close fit. Some members have 305/70/16's on non lifted 4x4's. = out to be 32.7 inches tall and 12 inches wide. U might have to crank up the torsion bars in the front for them to fit. Lots of Luck to ya

And Coming Soon: 3 Inch Body Lift Kit, 16.5 x 9.75 American Racing Baja Wheels Wrapped With 33x12.5x16.5 BFG All Terrains

ccla,
I have a couple of friends with 305's on there truck but all of them have 8 in. rims. One truck shop told me they did a 4x4 like mine with a inch of torsion bar and they cleared. The other shop said I wouldn't make it out of the parking lot. I was hoping that someone out there has this set up or knows somebody that has it.
