rookie lift question

my wife and i have always been in love with lifted trucks. we saw a truck we would like to buy and have lifted. in an advertisement we saw a truck with "33inch tires and a 6 inch lift" and we where like "YEAH, thats what i am talking about"

so my question is: is that a safe ride? a comfortable ride? what am i looking at if i have to drive the truck 60 miles to work twice a week? i was going to lift the F150, but we are looking into a dodge and i think the first thing i want to do is lift it.
any advice for a rookie?

Ok #1, i kinda got lost in your story, so what kind of truck is lifted with 33's? An F150 or a Ram? Either way, a 6" lift and 33" tires should be fine. Gearing shouldnt be a huge issue with 33's either, you sould have plenty of power to still go around if this truck is a V8...
I drive my truck to work everyday and I run 36's. So you should be fine. Post plenty of pics, and there are tons of guys on here who could use a wife like yours!

i was just trying to find out what kind of problems can i expect with such a setup. i am looking to buy another truck and have it lifted. it will be my truck and it will have to drive 60 miles at least 4 times a week. are these oversized tires capable of such traveling? any tranny problems?

That setup should be no problem. A truck with a V8 should push 33's fine. (I ran 33s with my 5.4 and hardly noticed a drop off of power at all; very minimal.) Now the tires on the other hand.... Mud tires will last ya 30-40,000 miles... All terrain tires shuch as BFG All Terrain or the ProComp All Terrain should get you 40-50,000. All Terrains will obviously drive a lot smoother too.
I ran BFG AT's in the 315/75's and they rode awesome. As good as stock.

like the others said, you will be fine with the set up you are talking about. 6" lift is not a problem for driving although it might be a little harder for the vertically challenged people to get in but still not a problem. The tires are fine don't worry at all. I am currently runnig 35's on my 4.6 with no problems and 3.55 gears rear.

You should be able to get more than 33's with a 6 inch lift.

my truck is 2WD and you should be able to get lift spindles at any lift shop. Bullseye is no longer around but Fabtech makes a good spindles, but that is all that they make that is worth any $$. They make them 3.5" not 3". I could only run the 35's with fiberglass fenders and some cutting of the firewall which was no big deal. anymore ?'s feel free to ask. Most suspension places would not recommend running 35's with only 6" of lift on a 2WD without fiberglass fenders.

im debating on whether to go with a spindle lift. I currently have a 3" body and running 30's but I think it looks a little silly. how did you lift the rear ? blocks ?.

I didn't lift the rear. the truck sits about 3/4" higher in front for that prerunner look but it really doesn't seem higher in from. I thought that I would have lifted the rear when I got the front done but I ended up liking the look. whatever you do if you like it that is all that matters. Good luck and have fun.

the last truck i had was a dodge that i lifted and put 33 boggers on the thing with a lift is they are very cool the ride will be a little rougher considering the shocks are usually built for off road use and it is safe to some aspecks your center of gravity is alot high so the risk of roll overs it more possible but all long as you drive sencibly you will be fine. what kind of tires does it have on it that makes a difference to.
