body lift or susp. lift

I am looking for a 4" to 6" lift on my truck. I drive on highways and city streets, no offroading. Should I go with a body lift or a suspension lift? I would like to put 33" or 35" tires on my truck. I want to have a nice smooth ride. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have a 4x4 or 4x2? That makes a HUGE difference for tire fitment and which lift to go with.

The thing with bodylifts are they are ugly you usually can see through the truck via the whell wells and they make your bumpers alot lower than they are supposed to be. Id go with suspension there a little more expensive but they are better looking with all new parts

I have a 4x4. I am more concerned with drivability than looks. So I should go with a susp. lift??

I for one am very happy with my body lift. I am similar to you in that I mainly drive on the highway. The body lift gives me a more agressive stance without affecting my ride. The 3 inch Performance Accessories kit comes with virtually everything you need, including front and rear bumper relocating brackets. You can also purchase their "lift lips" as I did which fill in the 3 inch gap left in your wheelwells so you can't "see through" the truck. You should also install nerf bars or running boards which will hide the frame as wll as making it easier to get in and out of the truck. With the 3 inch lift you can fit a max tire/wheel combonitation of a 315/75-16(35x12.50) on a 16x10 inch wheel. I personally think a 305/70(33x12.50) on a 16x10 inch wheel looks better as it does not "stuff the wheelwells" as much as 35, but that's a personal choice. You can also run a 8 inch wide rim if you choose. I have some pics in my gallary here as well as some more as www.fordtruckworld.com. If you want more than 3 inches, you need to start looking as suspension lifts.

Go to the gallaries and do a search for Wandell. Also, go to www.fordtruckworld.com and narrow the gallary search to lifted 2001 F-150 4x4's from Georgia and look for Wandell's Screw.

Thanks a lot dude. I'm running 285 75 16 stock rim on my 97 extended cab 4x4 and just wondering what a 3 inch body will look like. I don't want to go bigger with my tires, just got these and I can't take more of a loss in gas milage.

Hey Wandell, I just noticed you were from Cairo, I have family in that area. Mostly in Bainbridge. But I'm pretty sure my cousin goes to school in Cairo. Small world.

7" lift with 37's ...but i went with the add-a-leaf and it hurt my ride so im going to either have a new pack made by deaver or national spring or replace it with blocks

Thumbs up

I've been very happy with my 50K+ miles body lift mounted in my 103K miles truck. This is our daily driver so I was looking for a conservative lift but different from stock and a more aggressive look with a soft ride.

I will have to change tires very soon, so I will try to add a suspension lift in the 4"-6" range to fit tires in the 36"-38" range. Looking for more clearance and a new attitude for the daily driver. I am more incline to stay with 36's or 37's. I will decide later when I have the money in hand.

Check my website to see photos of my F150 with the 3" body lift and 35's.

I went with a 3" body lift and a 6" RCD suspension lift and 35" tires. My pics in my gallery only show the truck before the latest lift. It sits higher now.

I have a 2WD. I did a 3" body lift and a 6" RCD suspension lift. I went with RCD because I was told it was like a cadillac ride. They were right. Better ride than stock. Of course it uses Bilstein shocks, maybe that's part of it. I'm running 35's til they wear out, then I'll put on 37's.
