I had the same problem but it was my rear leaf spring clamps. I thought it was coming from the front but finally discovered it was in the rear. I have not fixed it yet, but duct tape is holding it fine. Hope this helps...

On my 93 F-150 XL it was the washer assy. on the radius are bushings. When the truck was parked, they were tight, but when the truck was moving the washers spun around and jingled against the nut. Made for a nice change in the pocket sound. Replaced the bushings and torqued the bolts to 120#. No more noise!

I also had this noise on my Gen I '01 SCrew. It turned out to be the same thing manx suggested. The castle nut was jingling in the right front drive shaft nut. I just took the kotter pin out and rotated the castle nut until I found a spot that kept the kotter pin tight, put in a new kotter pin and the sound was gone. I also had a '95 with a similar noise, turned out to be a loose part in the lockout hub. Just my .02

Add me to the list also. Everyone described the sound exactly like I would, loose washers rattling around on a bolt. I checked everything.....even thought it might be my cat since it rattled when I punched it.

Thanks for the tips guys....gonna try them out this weekend and let you know what I find.

GSCrew was correct: I removed the center hub cap and found the retainer for the spindle nut was floping around. I took out the cotter pin, widened it a bit with a long nose pliers (do anything to apply pressure to that flimsey retainer) Re installed the cotter pin and bent it tight against the POS
retainer. No more jingle.
