Question Vehicle tonnage rating? 2004 F-150

I bought a short bed. regular cab, 4.6 V8

heres my package

Payload Package #1b
4.6L EFI V8
1840 lbs Maximum Payload
6600 lbs GVWR

Payload Package #1c
5.4L 3V EFI V8
1700 lbs Maximum Payload
6650 lbs GVWR

why is the Max payload higher for the 4.6 V8

there for what is the tonnage rating for my truck 1/2 or 3/4 ton? thanks guys

The payload is higher because the truck weighs less.

Trucks these days should not go by 1/2, 3/4 or 1 ton. Throw all that out the window. They go by what they are rated for...the GVWR.

My 7700 has a payload of 2200 lbs. Take the truck weight, full of fuel and me, of 5500 lbs from 7700lb GVWR and you get 2200lbs. Well, that is over a ton...in an F150.
