2 WD to 4 WD

Ok, so i have a 02 V6 2wd f150. looking at converting it to 4WD. I know that in most cases it would cost the same to just buy a 4WD truck, but i am the type of person who likes to have something to work on. I need to know what type of front suspension the 4WD has (IFS, etc) and if anyone has done something like this to a newer f150. thanks

If you are going to use the old 4x2 frame you are looking at major changes. The 4x4 frame has a different front cross member. The lower A arm sits at a different pivot point on the 4x2 frame. Compair this picture to your frame and you will understand.

something ive thought of playing with on my 4.2 2wd is installing a transfer case only so i could get 2wd low. so if you just want to try that and tell me how that goes that would be great.

they have tons of lift kits for 2wd trucks these days and lots of desert racing trucks have been 2wd the prerunners. it just depends on the type of off roading you plan on doing.

but you would be better off buyin an older 4x4 and messin with that if you need something to fiddle with.

I have in the past disconnected the 4X4 engage selonoid so I would have 4X2Lo.
First gear is way too low for the street. Just to give you and idea, third gear 4X2Lo is about the same as first gear 4X2Hi.
