Question Rancho 9000 RSX Shocks

Hello All,
This is my first post, this is the greatest website ever!! I am on my third ford expedition and recently changed the shocks to Rancho 9000 RSX, ordered from Sams offroad just as everybody suggested here. I have two questions I would like some experience help with.

1) When you installed the shocks, did you have to pull the rod out of the shock? Normal shocks have a metal band when they are new and when you cut the band, the shock comes all the way out and you have to try to compress it, I noticed these don't do that, is that normal?? All 4 are doing this.. So I assumed so, I put them on the front and there is a world of difference.

2) What setting are you guys using? I am using 5 on the front and 4 on the back and it feels very stiff?

Thanxs for all the help!

Welcome !
1) Yes, that's all normal.
2) You can start out a bit softer when they're new and eventually go firmer as they wear. I tinkered with mine on my 2000 F-150 and found the middle settings to be firm. I set the rear shocks one click softer for daily driving and cranked them up temporarily for heavy towing. You have more weight in the rear with the Expy, so hopefully other members can provide you a more accurate evaluation.

The RS9000x are not gas pressurized, so no compressing is required. No worries with what you got.

I had the older RS9000 on my last truck and used 3 up front and 2 in the back unloaded. That would equate to 5 and 3 on the RS9000x. Some people like a very soft ride, and others firmer, so feel free to experiment with the settings.

From my RS900 experience, there was a noticable difference between setting 2 and 3 in the back. I.e. the dial really does something I suspect the RS9000x will behave similarily, so going down 2 numbers should be noticable.
