Grease and oil for rearend

First of all, no crazy comments about the thread title

I have a 2002 Supercrew FX4. I am lookig to regrease the rear and also change the rearend oil. Any particular brand that you guys would recommend? Also, what addatives should I add?

Thanks

I'd use Mobil 1 or another good synthetic oil. I'm not sure if an additive is needed with the synthetic oils or not, but I believe it is.

It's real simple. If you have a limited slip rear end, you buy the bottle that says "Specifically engineered for limited slip rear ends". This means that it already has the slip additive in it. If you do not have a limited slip rear end then you buy the regular 75w-140 lube.
Let's not overcomplicate it.

There is a metal tag on the rearend that tells you what weight oil to use. It will be attached by one of the diff. cover bolts.

And like Rocky said, if you have an LS rear, then buy oil that already has the additive, or buy regular oil and buy LS additive seperately.

I guess I was wondering if I need to use friction modifier or not. I have read alot of people here are using it?

Hi.

You may not need grease for your crease, but you may want to look into a pair of glasses ;-)).

As the above replies indicate:

Yes: if you have an L.S. diff (whether it's part of the gear oil or a separate additive),

No: if you don't have an L.S. diff

Buy a good synthetic brand ( Mobil1 , Amsoil, Royal Purple, Redline, etc).

Good luck!

Cheers
