body or suspension?

i want to put a 3" lift on my truck...but...i dunno if i should do a body or suspension lift. plus, i don't have that much money right now, and a 3" suspension lift is like $1500!! but i want it to look good. so, if anybody has any suggestions, let me know.

Nothing is wrong with either. Body lifts are a great value, if you can install it yourself.

Do whatever you think. Some people don't like the look of a BL but others, like me, don't care either way. Whoever quoted you for $1500 is insane. Spindles and blocks/add-a-leaf are easy to install.

I believe the PA kit is around $150 and a set of their Gap Guards are around $80.

I got 3" Spindles from Rought Country for $295, and them some 3" steel blocks from a local auto part store for $30. Me and my buddy took a whole day to do the install, but save a much of money and learned a lot about my truck. I have pic of the install in my gallery.

Like he said, this could only set you back $350 to go with suspension. A BL is a little trickier to install, but cheaper.

For a 2002 F150 4x4, would you need to modify brake lines or anything else when doing a 3 " body lift?

not if you get the PA bodylift. everything is included in the kit. the only thing extra is the gap gaurds and the shifter extention if you have a manual trans.

Also with a body lift you keep the stock ride. Suspension lifts tend to ride a little rougher than stock.

Yep. Unless you have big some rocks to climb, a PA body lift is the way to go for better tire clearence.

If you want to do it right do a suspension lift body lifts are tricky like they said and there not the best for any situation even when mounted correctly they give you more roll in your truck and if you ever offroad your truck ive heard storries of the bolts sheering off. so if i were you i would stay as far away from a body lift as i could.

bodylifts are not as bad as people think they are. granted yes a suspension lift is better, but bodylifts are still safe. i know someone with a 79 f250 w/ a 3" bodylift and suspension lift. he has done rolled the truck and the spacers, bolts, everything for the bodylift where fine. the cab was a little smashed tho. im not telling you to get a bodylift do what you want. all im saying is that bodylifts are not bad as people proclaim.

Are you lifting because you like the look or because you NEED a truck that sits higher for whatever reason? I don't wanna hear you NEED a truck on 33" tires because the I-10 gets kind of rough in your area either.

You'll find that most people that want to bash body lifts have never had one.
