No Zerks Ma, what gives?

Was going to lube my ball joints tie rod ends ect but they all seem to be sealed. Is this a better system than grease-able joints? Also what is the deal with the ball joint going out often?

Thank you.

Thank you.

Hahaha, yah thats funny. Found out the same thing the hard way when I lowered my truck. Got rid of the junk factory one's put on Moog, same as other guy, they are fantastic.

I might be the only one, but my factory parts were great. Every bit of the front suspension was factory Ford until 270,000 miles. The lower ball joints had started to creak at about 250,000 miles. I poked tiny holes in the boots, lubed them with lithium grease and finally changed them at 270,000 miles (due to slop). The pitman arm has had the same treatment occasional since 160,000 (to stop the F series pitman arm squeek).

Everything other than the ball joints is still factory Ford at 297,000 miles. I do have some reservations about the tie rod ends. It seems that they will fail even if there is no slop. Ford has special inspection procedures which includes replacement if there is any evidence of water in the boot. I will install moog replacements if I do change them.

Sealed parts seem to have a bad rap here. I have worked in a auto shop and feel that the sealed parts are as good, perhaps better, than greasable. Again, I may be the only one.

Oh, Yah, that reminds me. I changed out the tie rod ends already too!

There's only one zerk from the factory, and it's where the idler arm meets the frame mount. Aside from that, they're all 'lubed for life'....

Once they're worn out, replace them with something you can lube at every oil change.
