Leveling WHY???

Why does Ford make our trucks 2.5 in. lower in the front? I mean almost everyone on this site wants their truck to sit level and will spend at least $100 to make it that way. I don't understand why they wouldn't make the truck level from the factory. It makes me think there is a reason therefore a little scared to put a leveling kit on. Anyone have ideas?

It isn't just Fords. I saw a new chebby and it had a worse rake than a Ford.

I had a leveling kit on, but I took it off and went with lowering shackles in back for the levelled look.

I know your right about others having this too. But that makes me wonder even more about why this is part of the design. There must be a reason these folks are producing all of these trucks with a rake?

My guess, truck are made for hauling things. When you put a bunch of weight in the bed (hauling things) it will level itself out. if the truck rode level all the time, when you put weight in the bed, it makes it look like it's squatting. Not macho. Looks better level, thus the rake.

Hey, I'm not knocking leveling it out, I did mine, I'm just guessing that's the reason. Or it could be that some pencil-headed engineer just thinks it looks good that way. Beats me.--DIY

OK, I would take that as an answer. Never thought of it that way. I would have to bet that is the probably the main/only reason for the rake. Most people that buy trucks are needing to haul things and it would suc to have your hitch dragging around everywhere to go. Thanks for the replies guys!

And we can’t forget our wonderful government for telling the truck makers just how high the front bumper has got to be. My guess is for insurance reasons. The government has more control over the design of a vehicle than the manufactures have!

It's a little thing called aerodynamics. I wondered this same thing and then talked to a guy I know who works at the plant. Said it was all about aerodynamics of the truck.

Being a truck, mine has several permanent toolboxes. Which, combined with the tools inside, weigh enough to keep my truck level.

I'm going to install 2.5 AS and 1.5 AAL kit. I want the cheap lift, but I want it level when I drop a load on her.

matthewfedex,

How do those BFG MTs ride?
