Stock shock replacement suggestions?

I just picked up a 1999 F150 4x4 with 100k miles on it with stock shocks. They don't feel bad but I'm sure they're worn and should be replaced. The has not and will not be lifted or lowered. It will be driven 90% on pavement and 10% on fire roads. I'm looking for a good quality replacement that's not over priced.

Thanks,
Mark

Shock replacement

Dude, I've had several late model 150's and I've just replaced my stock "bilstein" shocks with Edelbrock IAS for the 2nd time (truck) Off-road on 1st, FX4 on this one. Had 167,000 when I replaced them got 212,000 now. Gotta say they are an excellent shock. Ride and handling both improve noticably. And in case it matters, if you wipe them off about once a month they look pretty good too.

I say go with edelbrock they improve the ride over the stock ones you currently have.

Edelbrock does not show any shocks for the 2004 and newer F150's on the application chart on their web site, They just haven't updated their web site right?

Did some searching for Edelbrock shocks for my 4x2 2004 F150 5.4 3V and was not able to find any. Some web sites will show the shocks available for the 2004 F150 but if you search the same site for 2005 shocks you won't find any. Unfortunately they don't mention that it's the Heritage model. So it looks like Edelbrock is out of the picture as far as shocks are concerned for any Ford truck newer than 2004. What's the next best shock?

Thanks for the responses. I had heard the Edelbrock IAS shocks work well.

Md, Monroe sells the sensi-trac for about 30 bucks each and they are far better then the stockers. My 03 FX4 rhode like crap until I put these on. The Monroes come with a lifetime warranty. They don't have any fancy paint job but they seem to work just fine. I spend a lot of time off road in the U.P. of Michigan and have never had a problem with these. Very smooth riding shock for city driving!

Donahoe's signature series shocks are actually made by Edelbrock so check out Donahoe Racing's site

Thanks Fish. Do you know how the Monroe's Sensi-trac differ from the Edelbrock IAS?

I would guess that the Edelbrock IAS would be a little stiffer and better for off roading and towing. I find it very difficult to tell the difference between shocks unless there is something wrong with them. I think the biggest difference between the Edelbrocks and the Monroes is about 40 bucks each!!!! Keep in mind, I was looking for the smoothest ride possible.

How do the Sensa-Trac differ from their Reflex shocks?
How are the Rancho RS5000 shocks? They're about the same price as the Monroe shocks.

The Monroe Reflex is a heavier duty shock than the Monroe Sensi-trac and should ride a little stiffer. I've used the Rancho 5000s and the Monroe Reflex in the past on some of the Explorers I've owned and they both worked fine. I've also had a set of the Edelbrocks on one of my Explorers but had one of them leaked at about 10,000 miles( Edelbrock sent me a new one!). I think any of the above shocks are much better than the factory ones and you will be happy with any of them. I do believe that the softest ride award would go to the Monroe Sensi-trac. I've had them on my 03 F150 FX4 for 65,000 miles now. I changed out the factory Ranchos when my truck only had 5,000 miles on it!!! One nice thing, I'm gonna change out all my shocks in about a week with new Sensi-tracs which will be a free exchange because of the lifetime warranty!!!!

What prompted the change out and how tough was the negotiation?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to look for a good deal on a set of Sensa-Trac's. Are there any online companies you'd recommend?

Nothing prompted the change but after 65,000 miles I'm sure they are not as effective as they once were. No negotiation at most of the big chain stores. I picked my Monroes up at a large Michigan auto parts chain called Murrays Auto. I just walk in, throw them on the counter with my receipt and walk out with new ones. No questions asked!!! Autozone is another big chain around here that works the same. I also do the same thing with brake pads.
