Changing Shocks on a 2004

If you have done this yourself, did you need to separate the ball joint from the lower control arm to get the shock off and what type of spring compressor did you use?

Yes, you need to seperate the ball joints and tie rod ends. You need a heavy duty spring compressor to remove/reinstall the coilsprings.

NOPE, just remove the upper ball joint. leave the lower one on just let your hub and spinle hang on the lower arm. smack the top of the spindle with a hammer and it will drop right out. pull the whole coilover out and put it in a spring compressor (if your replacing the spacer inside the coil, if not just bolt the new spacer on top), I used one that you have to turn by hand but an air one is way easier.

Will this do? It's a spring compressor for the single rear shock Moto-x bikes.

You will need to disconnect the lower sway bar link from the lower control arm along with the upper ball joint from the spindle. Like AZFX4 said, just smack the top of the spindle near the ball joint to seperate. DON'T hit the ball joint!

Those are probabbly not heavy enough to handle the load on your springs, you will want to use a heavy duty compressor, and be careful.
