$400 to change shocks

Is this to much to change out all 4 shocks on a 2004 spring over and do an alignment?

What brand of shocks? Not sure what you mean by spring over since it's coilovers (struts) on the front. The front is very labor intensive considering you have to disassemble the strut so I think 400 is probably pretty reasonable. Now if this is the price without shocks included then it's way too high but if shocks are included I'd say you're pretty close.

Well, I call them coilovers, but some people call them spring over. I know their not stuts, but this price is for installation only. The set of four Bilstiens already set me back about $290

see how much they would charge to do the fronts only, and do the rears yourself... shouldnt take more then an hour to do the rears by yourself

I would think 200-250 would be a fair price for install for fronts. they should also be doing an alignment since the whole coil over assy will be out of the truck

It doesn't seem that bad. Think in terms of how long it will take. 1hr for the rears, 1.5 per side for front and 1hr for the alignment. thats 5 hours and if the labor rate is $80, which is about average around here, then $400 is ok. I'm not sure how long it takes to do the fronts because i haven't done them. maybe some one who does this for a living will chime in and give you a better idea of the time it takes.

They want about 290 to do the fronts, 40 for the rears and 75 for the alignment.

takes about an hour to do each side up front, but on paper it might take 1.5 hours.... and 75 for an alignment is fair...

If you are paying 400 for the shocks and the labor together then this is a very good deal. I have installed 4 or 5 sets and have never had to do an alighnment.

on a coil over set up? On the 97-03 trucks you didnt need to b.c it didnt alter ride height, but its possible that with the strut type set up that the ride height could be altered by a slightly different coil mount etc....

400$ for all 4 shocks, alignment and labor included sounds ok.

My Shocks arrived. I would like to level the truck out a bit. The shocks come with two grooves provided for different vehicles to adjust the ride height. The upper groove is for the Explorer and the Lower for the F150. Do you think it's OK to use the upper groove to give me a slight lift in the front? I will be getting an alignment.

As you can see the front end does need a little altitude.
