1986 F150 Ball Joint Replacement
Hello, I am trying to replace the upper and lower ball joints on my 1986 F150 2WD, 302 V8, Automatic, standard cab, long bed. I have the ball joints, the press, and such, but I have run into a couple of problems.
The Haynes Manual tells me to remove the spindle, I have the "Mickey Mouse" calipers that I have to drive a punch through to get the calipers separated, they have the stupid clips with a rubber "spacer" holding the things in place. I cannot get the calipers off for one thing. This is perhaps the dumbest thing I have seen on a brake system.
How do I get the friggin' calipers off?
Then it states that I have to remove the spindle.
How do I get the Camber adjuster out so I can remove the Spindle?
It also states that there is a retaining ring around both of the ball joints, only my top one has the retaining ring, the bottom looks like it is pressed in.
I am not a professional mechanic, but I have a lot of experience working on cars and trucks, most of it with Dodge and Chrysler vehicles.
Any help would be appreciated.
