If your truck does not have skid plates, than it is probably not an off road.

The 4x4 sat about 2" higher than the 4x2 due to a suspension lift, and the 'Off Road' and/or 'FX4 Off Road' group sat another inch higher due to the larger 17" wheels and tires.

in 1999, 2000, and 2001 the 'Off Road Equipment Group' was made up of Skid plates and 17" wheels. I don't know about the 97 and 98? You could order the skid plates separately.

In 2004 FX4 became a model.

One for the front, one on the gas tank and one for the transfer case.
