its gonna cost around 250 for install then what ever the parts cost.

Id say you can get it done for 500-700.

If you plan on only going with 35's then go with 4.56's

If you plan on going to 37's + then you will want to look at 4.88's

If you tow ALOT go with 4.88's

You can also use 5.13's but only do that if you plan on going with a tire over 37's and you tow frequently.

I only have 1 problem with them.

im wanting to go with 4.88's and they are telling me they cant do it.

They wont say why all they say is thats too much gear for the engine. which is stupid.

Im gonna tell them what i want and give them the money if they dont want to do it then ill take my business elsewere.

Haha...that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!!! That's why I avoid 4x4 shops at all cost. I have seen some of the most retarded crap EVER......come from Central Florida 4x4 shops!!!

The accepted formula for re-gearing is: (new tire size divided by OEM tire size) X OEM gears.

So: (35 inch tires, divided by 30 inch OEM tires) multiplied by 3.55 OEM gears = 4.141.

Your new gear size should be 4.10.

My local Ford Dealership is also a Ford Racing Performance Parts shop; meaning that they are authorized to sell and install all the performance mods and your warranty stays intact. Kind of nice that you can mod your car or truck and not void your warranty. The FRPP guys say that Ford will honor the warranty for 3.73 gears, and recommend only going up to 4.10 gears with the current 4R75 transmissions.

Do not just jump up to 4.56 gears, just because you want to "go big". There is a science to it. And 4.56 gears would be a bit much for a 4.2L V6. Not because your engine can't handle it. But because your transmission was not made to turn gears of that size.

A couple of engine mods like a pulley & e-fans may reduce parasitic loss and give you a little more power. Or even better, get a StreetFighter® AOD-4R70W Transmission. It should bolt right up. Then go for the big gears, big wheels, and big tires.

You need to consider how you use your truck. If you tow/haul a lot, I'd go with the 4.88's since you have a V6. If you never tow/haul and drive a lot on the interstates at high speed, I'd go wiht 4.56's.

yes there is a science behind it with a 35" tire 4.56's will put you back to a final gear ratio close to stock.

With 35" tire and 4.88's the final gear ratio will put you over stock giving you more acceleration, and more pulling power.

with 38's and 4.88's the final gear ratio will be as close to stock as you can get. And still beable to turn the tires easily.

Another thing YOU need to think about in your theory of 4.10 gears being enough.
> Are you towing?
> Is the 4.10 gonna push a tire though thick mud?
> Is that 4.10 gonna be enough gear if you ever want to move to a larger tire?

Theres alot more than just tire diameter and engine size to take into consideration.

And the gears will not hurt the transmission. It will only help it. what will hurt the transmission is High gears (2.73, 3.55, 3.73) and big tires (35"+)
