i recently acquired "death wobble". every time i hit a bad bump in the road my truck shakes vigorously until i come to a complete stop. i'm planning on a solid axle swap but i'm just waiting on parts and the time to do it. but does anybody have any suggestions of what i can do to possibly prevent the shake? i changed out the steering stabilizer and my ball joints and wheel bearings are fine.

I had about the exact same problem in my Cherokee and a new steering stabilizer solved it. Was it much improved after the new stabilizer? Or, did you even have the problem before you got a new stabilizer?

 

I heard that even an alignment can fix this. But you covered all the basics, ball joints, bearings, tie rod ends, stearing linkage. How much lift do you have and what setup?

 

i have a six inch rough country, i know it's cheap but i was on a budget build, and a 3 inch body lift. currently riding 35 12.5 baja claws. the problem started and then i changed the stabilizer, went away for about a week and a half or so then came back. i replaced the stabilizer with a skyjacker dual stabilizer.

 

try getting an alignment. my buddy had the same problem in his grand cherokee and that fixed it.

I have an 05' F250 Super Duty (my company truck) that has MAJOR problems with this. When driving on the highway and turning either slightly left or right and hitting an expansion joint in a bridge, my truck would shakes so bad I need to pull over... The weird thing is it's intermittently happening, usually when I least expect it.

what about tie rods?

 

Did you change anything right before this started or was it just 'out of the blue'?

 

if the front end components are all tight I would check the alighnment sounds like a caster issue.

 

i had this problem on my truck, basically every bushing or joint was worn out and had about 1/16th to 1/8th inch play in all components. here's what i had to replace:

axle pivot bushings
upper and lower ball joints
drag link ball joints
also rotated and balanced the tires
and checked wheel bearings

 

just randomly started one day. first time ever got it went over a railroad track

It's called "bump steer", everything can be tight in the fornt end and you can still get this. - Find a shop that aligns the old fashion way. - W/paint and/or chalk. Laser alignments aren't worth a damn dime IMO. - For our 4x4 models anyway.

I guess we shouldnt use computers to tune the engine either, we will just tune it by how it sounds/feels
