not buying these again

so about 8 months ago i bought 4 Rancho rx9000 xl's, i bought them through 4wheelparts, all of this was in Austin, TX. Now i am in Montana going to school and my buddy and i were looking under my truck and i saw something very odd

The piston of the shock has come out of the shock tube and is doing nothing.

I am very confused by this because the truck has not changed its level or anything, why has it not changed? is there coils on the front end?

I'm calling rancho tomorrow and if they dont send me a new shock, im going to raise hell, this is a serious safety issue.

i will put a picture on my profile

Thanks

do you have any idea why they blew out? the only thing that i have done in the last month or so is been driving up this road filled with potholes to go skiing twice a week

either the shock is defective or you hit a very big hole which caused the shock to "top out" very hard. the reason it still sits at the same height is because the torsion bars are your springs. Shocks do not affect ride height.

Rancho RS9000s have a lifetime warranty, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting a replacement part. You can either go through the shop that sold your shocks to you or to Rancho directly, their # is 734-384-7898.

that mud was just from driving up to the local ski area. i have only really carried one heavy load but it was fine after that, but these shouldn't be blowing out like this

There must have been some extreme flex of your suspension that ripped the shaft outa the body. That probably means the shocks aren’t long enough for the amount of travel you have. Lift the truck up with no shock on. Measure between the two mounting surfaces for the shock, that is your extended length. The shock will need to be atleast that long or you will "top out" as was previously mentioned. Also compress the suspension to get the compressed distance so that they aren’t too long.

Obviously they pulled apart, probably from being over-extended. Are your torsion bars cranked? Because that will cause the suspension to top out very hard. The shocks could also be the wrong part # (too short).
