Mind blowing how many people think 4x4 doesn't work unless used in conjunction with a lifted ride height.
You guys realize the 4wd still works regardless of how high off the ground the truck is right ?
99% of these huge lifted trucks on these forums are for show, they don't really *need* that extra ground clearance, they just think it looks cute. A "lowered" f150 will still go through mud.. snow.. etc, it just sits (ready for this?). . . a little bit lower.
Lowering it will improve handling and mileage, meanwhile all the hacked up lifts you see around forums do nothing but negatively impact performance.
Some of these hack job lifts on these forums are negative in every way possible other than the cool look, which is obviously subjective.
It's crazy how fads come and go. We are currently in the "lift it and paint everything flat black" phase.

exactly the point..

Which is why I can't figure out all the people that come into these types of threads and give the whole speech about how stupid it is to lower a 4x4.

They always say something about "to each their own", but not until they condemn everyone first.

my truck is low however with a stock size all terrain style tire it will go wherever i need. if its that muddy the farmer wont let me drive out to get my deer, and if theres that much snow im stayin home! plus one day when i supercharge it, i wont ruin my back tires, ill just let all 4 push!

not gonna step on your toes, but my "lifted" 4x4 needs the clearance, or my truck wouldnt make it in the country. its not a show truck, and never will be.

I'm new here, but not new to forums - been lurking here for awhile but I'm also on f150forums(same s/n). Great thread! It's been pretty helpful so far, but I still have a few questions. I wasn't planning on lowering a 4x4 but it's the best option for me at this point.

Here's the truck I'm starting with - 2007 Lariat SCrew 4x4, 35x12.50-20 Federal Couragia, HBS 2.5, and DJM lift shackles.

What does the clearance from crossmember to ground look like with a 3/5 kit? I'm looking for 3/5 or possibly 4/6 depending on clearance, and I will be running helper bags in the rear. Is anyone running a 305/40R22 or 285/45R22 with a 3/5 or lower? More than likely I will be running Harley reps in 22x9 +34 offset - if not Harley reps the offset will still be in the mid to high 30's and the lowest would probably be a +32.

I pm'd Blown Ford on f150forums as he's running 305/40 on OEM Harley's with a Belltech 3/5 I believe - he says there's room. He's the only one I've seen with that combo so far, but it worries me it would rub with 4" in the front. 285/45 is only an option since I can get some basically new take offs cheap locally.

So, here's what my list consists of so far.

DJM 3/5 - which with research is a 3.5 drop front
Belltech Lower/Lift Strut #25001
Belltech SP Shocks #2211EE
McGaughys Helper bags #70013
22x9 - offset in the mid 30s

Input/opinions are welcome as I want this done right the first time. I'm not against notching it at all, but if I can get by without I would go that route.

That's a sharp truck as is! I'm not knowledgeable at all on the 04+ trucks on how much clearance they have with different drops. Hopefully someone can chime in who has a 04+ 4x4 and point you in the right direction.

You can only do the belltech drop strut at 3". Another member here used the djm lower control arms and got tired of replacing broken cv axles. BUT I never reached the point of lowering mines, (almost did!) Good luck. The rear is not an issue.

Since this is lowering thread for 4x4 on f150online i figured this would be to best place to ask this question.

I'm currently on the fence about bullying ******* the rear on my 02 f150 4x4 and was wondering how easy it is, do I need a lift, and what would be the best plan of attack for doing it.
