The rear blocks are small enough on 09-14's that he could get away with using his 4x4 u-bolts. But I agree, the correct way is to use 2wd u-bolts.

TreyFX4 just find a good set of 2wd front struts and swap them out. If you can't find any 14 specific ones just get a set of 09-13's and swap in the 13 LCA's you have. The rear is easy, remove rear block, and add some drop shackles.

If you go by the book, according to Ford the Ubolts are one time use. So technically reusing is a no-no


That being said lots of people use, reuse, and multi reuse (myself included)

 

Every time I pulled blocks on one of my trucks, I bought a new set of 2wd u-bolts. I actually still have 3 used sets of u-bolts, the 4wd ones from the 07 and the 2wd set I put on it and the 4wd ones from my 13

 

Well, when I figured in the reduction of needed U-bolt length needed with blocks removed, it told me I would need spacers between nuts and lower plates under axle. I bought new 9/16" diameter U-bolts from Stengle Bros. which is a company that makes truck suspension parts .... they came with deep well nuts and hardened washers.

When I finished all my torqueing equally on nuts and some drives and torque checks, when all done, I threaded a shorter nut up to the deep well nuts and snugged to lock, then trimmed excess flush.

 

Anyone know what kit was used to drop this truck? It's awesome looking.

 

Im looking to see if anyone has any pics of a 4x4 with a 2/4 lowering kit. I would like to go lower if possible with out compromising ride quality to bad. right now my truck is lifted with 285/60/20.

Im also interested what size tires you are running with 22s and 24s. I am trying to figure out what the stance will look like and how the tires will feel the wheel wells.

just a lot of unanswered questions and thoughts. Ive searched a lot of threads on here and still have many questions. Any and all info is greatly appreciated.

Sorry about the photo quality. Here's my '07 4X4 with a Roush 2/3 suspension kit. I run 22" wheels in the warm months. The ride quality has suffered a little, but I'm used to it.

 

Lowered 2015 4x4 Lariat.

 

I've seen this truck on another f150 forum and he said he built his own kit using different pieces from multiple vendors, since at the time he lowered his there weren't any real 4x4 lowering kits out there; he did a great job and it looks great. His previous truck looks great as well.

My biggest question is what do his CV axles look like??? I've seen a few 2004-08 4x4 trucks lowered 3" in the front and the CV axles are at a pretty sharp angle; so sharp I wouldn't feel comfortable going any lower. His is dropped 6"....I wanna know how he did it! Lol

 

How did you get this low?? What did you do with your CV axles? I'm especially curious how you did it with your previous truck; the 2011 I think it was?

 

I have to admit, when I first got my truck and came to this site I was all about the leveling kit with 35's. Well, after realizing that my truck has become a pavement princess I'm now in the mood to lower it. Just the simple 2wd shocks and u-bolt removal. but I want to add a Hellwig rear sway bar and upgrade the front one. Anybody else running those on a lowered truck? I can't wait to feel the difference in handling.
Now currently selling my Weld Racing rims giving the crap Falken rubbers to a friend and bought a super nice set of OEM take offs for $200. (I'm trying to see how cheap I can go on a quality drop).
One more question: are the 1-2" drop shackles on eBay crap? I know most are but it really doesn't look like a part that has a lot of difference in materials used from brand to brand. just wondering...

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I just picked up a '14 FX4. I'm wanting to lower it by just taking the rear blocks out, then installing 2wd struts & shocks. My question to y'all that have done this, is where are y'all getting your parts? I just called the dealer, they want $112 a piece for 2wd U bolts, not a set, a piece. Anyone that has done this very install, would you please provide the part numbers. I have found some struts on eBay for $120 a piece, but if new ones are close to that price, I would buy new. I'll probably just run a couple of washers or try to see if rear block will go on top to take up some room for threads not to bottom out.
