1000 dollars to fix ball joints?

Somy mechanic i go to told me the squeaking i have is from my ball joints. He told me that it will cost around 1000 dollars to upper and lower and that the model and year i have i have to take the A arm to change them. Does that sound right?

uppers come with the new arm is correct. with labor and parts to do all 4 can get to around the 800-1000 buck range. ask if hes using moog parts?

last time we did them in my 98 they were around 800 for all 4

Wow thats alot. Everyone will suggest moogs. But imo its just the name your getting with those. The duralast ones with the greasable fitting are just as good. And readily available at autozone. And you know greasable ball joints are not always better. Ive heard some mixed reviews on the greaseable ones. But if your any good with mechanics id suggest trying replacing them yourself.

I'd say grab a buddy and do it yourself. I got quoted 1100 for uppers and lowers. I was like F THAT and did it myself for less than 400. And thats with buying some tools. I had no prior knowledge of my suspension, now I feel more confident if something breaks.

I had the passenger side upper/lowers replaced on mine last year. I went and bought Moog ball joints, I think they were around $200. Since I wasn't able to do it myself at the time I dropped it off at shop next to where I work one morning. Went to pick it up after work and was charged $130.

With the price of moogs from rock auto being just over that of the auto****s theres no reason to not get them.

ive installed both house brand oreilly and moog before on many different trucks and from just comparing them side by side the moog is a beefier unit built to last. i personally dont like doing labor twice so i do it once with the right parts and be done. moog isnt just a name like you say.

The other brand id recommend is XRF.

I've compared brands side by side and Moog is better quality. If you live within driving distance of Dallas, buy the Moog parts for about $350 and get patman to install them. He does excellent work and is more than reasonable with his price. It will save you a lot.

I just did this to my truck last weekend. i got MOOG upper A arms and lower ball joints from rockauto for around 170. after i received the parts, i went to advance auto and rented the master ball joint tool for $100. (you get the money back after you return it). the only other thing you need to get this accomplished is a pickle fork and a impact gun and a jack, if you dont have those.

so i replace both upper and lower ball joints on both sides for $170!!

i also got a alignment after that so add 70 more.

there is a video on youtube on how to install them. ill link it here later.

Do it yourself for less than half the cost. It's really not that hard. You can rent the ball joint press you need from auto zone. The uppers cost more but they are easier. The lowers require the press and take more time

Get the Moog, replaced mine about 8 months ago with less expensive Chinese junk, they only lasted about 6 months. Fortunately all I had to do was return to O'rielly's and pay the difference for the Moogs. You get what you pay for. You can do it right or do it over.
