So I purchased an upper control arm at Advance Auto and was going to replace myself. It was making some horrible popping noises. I jacked up the truck, took off the wheel, only to realize I have no wrenches or sockets to fit any of the bolt sizes. So I return the part and take it to a shop I have gone to a long time. They are quoting me the following:

1 new UCA - $93.55
2 hours of labor @ $65 per hour
1 alignment - $69.95

Total with tax about $318. Does that seem fair?

 

Sounds about right, I think I was quoted around 550ish to do both sides on my truck when I did mine.

 

Invest in a good socket set and do it yourself. Then you can do both sides!

 

Yup, a 30 dollar set of wrenches or socket's will save you a load in labor cost.

 

Yeah, I was debating just spending the money on a decent mechanics tool set. My current set is lacking big time. I have been messing around with vehicles myself for years....but without the right tools can't do that much. Kills me that a replacement UCA is $46 online too.

 

I would do the work yourself. It is not too difficult and it is a great learning experience.
