Question Comments on 315/75-16's and 3.55 gears?

Aloha everyone wanted to get some driving impressions from anyone running 35's with 3.55 gears. I'm currently using a 33" tire and with my engine mods performance is great. I want to go to a larger tire size with my body lift, but can't afford gears at the same time. I've seen the RPM chart tire size/gear thing before and just wanted to translate that to actual driving. How often do you need to disengage OD, how fuel economy is affected, and any general driving impressions would be appreciated? Thanks

Thumbs up

I've got 315's with 3.55 gears in my truck. Off the line performance is no where near what it used to be but my truck can definitely still get out of it's own way. I just got done installing a Superchip so that added power will surely help.

As far as gas mileage, I think I'm getting around 12-13 MPG. Again, I haven't really checked that out since I put the chip in.

I usually disengage my OD if I'm running around town or towing my camper. Good luck if you should choose to go with 315's. They look great

Post Same here

I've put about 5000 miles on my truck since I put these tires on my truck. The only time I take it out of OD is on really nasty PA hills or when hauling a lot of stuff. 12-13 mpg sounds about right for gas mileage but my odometer is off so that is just an estimate. I also have a superchip so the improved shifting helps a little. I didn't wait long to get my 4.56's though, they're sitting in my truck waiting to be installed. I can still spin them on wet pavement or loose granular though easily.

Thanks you guys for the info, sounds like its not too bad. I'm going to remove the belt driven fan and put in an electric along with the body lift so it should help with my gears being too high. Hey klaibs27 cool action shot of your truck! Where did you get your gears and how much?

yeah, go here... www.f150world.com/klaibs27 and go to the wellsville or 600 acres album. I got my gears from west coast differential for 635. That included Timken bearings with the install kits. They were the cheapest I found and they shipped for free. Had them in about three days or less.
