testing a 7-pin harness?

Is there a handy way to test the function of a 7-pin wiring harness without an actual trailer? Maybe some kind of plug with indicator lights?

Can you test the connections with a simple two-probe circuit tester?

I just bought a '99 150 with a tow package. Everything seems to be in order but I would like to tow a friends trailer this weekend and would like to be able to test the 7-pin before the weekend arrives.

You can use a single wire test light. Just put the alligator clip on the hitch and touch the flat connectors in the hookup. If it is a Ford setup the flip top on the hookup tells you what each one is. Good luck !

We recently bought a pop-up tent camper. When we went to pick it up, the dealer stuck a plastic "gadget" in my 7 pin and verified all circuits with an LED readout. Real slick. Wouldn't know where he got it but the product does exist. Small and round like the connector and easily fit in the palm of your hand.
