Air Bags

Air Bags
Does anyone know what kind of air bags would work on a 1999 F-150 supercab 2wd with the 5.4L? Need them to help level the truck when towing a 27ft fifth-wheel. The strongest kit I could find for the truck were bags rated up 2500lbs of leveling capacity, would these work if the camper weighs about 6600lbs loaded? Nobody seems to make the 5000lb leveling bags for the truck. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you put 2500 lbs of tongue weight on your F150, you will have a lot more problems than the air bags can handle. Your 6600 lb trailer should be set up to have about 700-800 lbs tongue weight. If you have over 2500 lbs on the hitch then you will have to worry about blowing rear tires.
edit- I just saw that it's a 5th wheel. Regardless, you still don't want more than 1500 lbs tongue weight. More than that and it's time to look at an F350.

Ian, Take close look at this picture....
As you can see, the fifth wheel is hooked up. Do you see any sag?? It is leveled out by air bags. If I added more air, it would ride stock height, with the fifth wheel. The fifth wheel is over 8000lbs, and almost 29'. The ACTUAL weight/pressure on these bags in this picture is roughly 600 to 700 lbs...
The bags provide 2500 lbs of lift, so if they are only lifting 700, then that means they have about 1800 more pounds to lift. You will never have to do that.
And if you are wondering, this truck did very well pulling this monster behind it. You should have no problems pulling your fiver...

Actually depending on what type of airbag you have or what brand they can provide up to 5000lbs of lift.
The two main types of bags are tapered sleeves or double convoluted air springs. Tapered sleeves are normally capable of about 3200lbs for the set while the doulbe convoluted are capable of 5000lbs for the set. Hope that helps you. Of course these systems are designed for the vehicle so that they are not going to create a lot mor lift than what the vehicle is capable of holding. Remember your GVW

True Bambibasher, but the bags I had was a kit from Air Lift, specifically designed with brackets made for mounting if you have a fifth wheel hitch, and the F150. What I had on my F150 would suit Ian2g3 perfectly.
The kit for my F250 has the double convoluted bags, rated at 5000lbs. I didnt get them yet though, cause I wont need them until I get a bigger fifth wheel.
