Wiring a brake controller

I have an 04 SCREW and I purchased a brake controller. I have the plug and relay that came with the truck and the controller I believe has 4 wires coming out of it. Looked at it briefly trying to figure out how all the wires hook up since the ford harness has several wires and the controller only has 4. Any help would be appreciated.

Here are the wires I got and the descriptions:

Controller wires:
white = ground
red = non powered stoplight wire
black = 12 volt source
blue = trailer brakes

harness from Ford wires: (description in the installation manual)
white = ground
blue = trailer electric brake feed from brake controller (output)
green = vehicle stop lamp switch to brake controller (input)
red = fused trailer brake controller battery feed
brown = head lamp switch to vehicle running lamps

On the actual harness from Ford the I think the red and blue are marked wrong. Here is the description written on the wire
red = to trailer electric brakes
blue = feed wire from battery

Something doesn't seem to be right either in the installation manual or how the wires are marked. Also where does the brown wire on the harness go to.

This is how I think it goes for the red wire on the harness is the power wire. From controller to harness

white to white
red to green
black to red
blue to blue
???? to brown

You might contact lencohitches@msn.com. They have a pigtail that will connect your controller to the wiring harness under the dash.

Here is the legend I got on the tag with my Tekonsha.

Ford/New Ford (pink wire)--------function-----Cont. wire color

Red/Pink----------+12 volts----------------Black
Lt. Green/Red----Stoplight------------------Red
White/White------Ground --------------------White
Dark Blue/Blue----Trailer brakes--------------Blue
Brown/Brown------apparently not used

Hope this helps,
Curt

That is what I figured. So my harness from ford was marked wrong then. They had the blue and red wire switched. So the red is for the 12 volt source and the blue is to the trailer electric brakes.

Does anyone know what the brown wire on the harness is for. It is marked head lamp switch to vehicle running lamps

That brown wire is probably to use if the controler has a lighted display that would come on with the dash lights if I had to guess.
