Talking Is this to much trailor

I want to buy a new enclosed trailor to haul my 2 dirt bikes but i need too know how much trailor my truck can handle. Right now im looking at a 8.5ft by 20ft haulmark trailor. The trailor it self weighs 3500 and i want to put 2 dirt bikes and gas and some tools in it. Can i do this. And can i go any bigger, like a 24 footer. Iv got the tow package, And a trailor brake controller. And i can get a weight distributing hitch. Just wondering if this will work.

2000 F150 4x4 reg cab shortbox
5.4L
3.55 LS
6300 gvwr
Trailor, 3500 lbs
dirt bikes 210 lbs a piece
tools, 150 lbs
gear, 100 lbs
gas, 50 lbs

The trailer might be a little big and bulky, but the weights you supplied are easily handled by your truck. Well within your limiits bro.
A 2000 V-6, 3.55 axle supercab can safely tow 5500 lbs.
I would say you are in good shape with that 5.4L

Why do you need 20 feet to hold what fits in an 8 foot trailer? I'd save the money and buy a smaller trailer, like 6x12. If you want to spend money, get a V-nose to save fuel.

You truck will pull 20 and 24ft trailers. 8.5' is very wide. Few extended mirrors will work with that wide of a trailer on an F-150. With a reg cab short bed, your wheelbase will make a 24' trailer push you around.

Do you have other plans for this trailer besides 1000 pounds of cargo? I'd only look at that size if I were planing to haul a car. Otherwise, a single axle 6x10 or 6x12 will hold more than enough toys and gear.

BTW, I'm not impressed with Haulmark. They have a couple lines, but they are priced higher than their better quality competitors. United and KZ Cargo are nicer for about the same or less money. I don't know where you live, but check out http://www.cardinal-sales.com/ for some great prices if you can drive to a factory to pick one up. My father in law bought a Southwest (now United) 7x14 a couple years ago through them. Easy to work with, and saved at least $1000 compared to buying locally.

20ft trailer and dirt bikes...

You should be ok weight wise, but 20ft trailer... if you load that baby down with other stuff you might be in trouble.. I have a 2002 F150 lariatt FX4 5.4 355LS and tow a 27ft camper. 4200lbs dry weight, 5100lbs fully loaded. I can handle 5,100lbs all in the North Carolina Mountains and it not bad at all..but 5100lbs is my total package,, trailer, me,wife, gear, whole deal. So if you can be total weighted under 6,000lbs, you can handle the weight ( weight Distribution set up as well ) brakes, etc.
