If the trailer was perfectly balanced on its axle(s)
it would not teeter nor totter.
The back would not fall to the ground.
The front would not fall to the ground.
The tongue weight would equal ZERO POUNDS.
The tongue is in the front.
Tongue weight is how much more the front weighs than the back using the axle(s) as the pivot.
Let's say your tongue weight is 346 lbs.
If you load a 500 lb piano forward of the trailer axle
and another 500 lb piano to the rear of the trailer axle,
Your tongue weight is still 346 lbs.
it would not teeter nor totter.
The back would not fall to the ground.

The tongue weight would equal ZERO POUNDS.

Keep in mind that in general you should have at least 10% tongue weight. ie. trailer weighs around 5000lbs=tongue weight should be around 500. If you have too little tongue weight the trailer may sway and you don't want that, VERY scary. You should never have negative tongue weight. ie. all the weight in the back of the trailer.
Also, you can test tongue weight. Get a scale from the bathroom and place the tongue of the trailer on the scale at the height the trailer ball is on the truck. This may take a little experimentation. You may want to take a test drive as well before any long trips. Good luck...
