Prodigy brake controller installation....bracket location

Hello,

I'm going to install my prodigy this weekend. I have all the items but I'm looking for ideas as where to mount the bracket. I DO NOT want to screw or drill into the plastic dash. I've noticed a nice metal bracket under the dash on the left side of the steering wheel. Has anyone used it?

thanks,
Bob

Good spot!

That's where I mounted my Prodigy P3.

Ken07Harley,

Thanks for the reply. Did you just use the screws that came with the prodigy? Did you have to drill a pilot hole first? any pics of the finished product?

Thanks,
Bob

Yes, I used the supplied screws and drilled pilot holes first. Holes lined up perfectly with both of the ridges on the metal tab under the dash.

BTW: My P3 came with 2 brackets. I used the metal one because it had a lower profile. ... and don't forget to install the relay that should have come with your Ford trailer towing package. Mine was in the glovebox.

Thanks for the tips!

I was wondering which bracket would be better. I plan on leaving the controller in the truck all the time so I wouldn't need the quick release bracket.

I installed the relay yesterday and plugged in the wiring harness. I just have to install the bracket and plug her in.

I'm still looking for a trailer to pull my jeep on. I want to be ready to pick one up at a moments notice if I see a good deal.

I used the metal bracket on the lower left... no problems for me although some folks say it gets in thier way getting in and out of rig.

No problems here either. I'm not sure how it could get in their way on the new body style. It's so far forward and high up from the floorboard that it would be akin to complaining that the ODBII port or parking brake is in their way.

I used the mounting pocket screwed onto the little mounting tab under the dash and it is out of the way. I did make a second set of mounting holes in the pocket further toward the front of the pocket to recess it slightly back under the dash. It looks great and works flawlessly.

Got it installed

Guys,

Thanks for all the input. I finished the install a few hours ago. It was pretty simple. Here is a pic:

Do you guys leave your brake controller hooked up all the time or just when you need it?

Thanks,

Bob

Mine stays with the truck 24/7. My father does the same with his.

Have you noticed if yours is in your way when getting in and out of your truck? It does look like your P2.6 sticks out much further than my P3.

Nope, It isn't in the way at all. I drove around and hit the brakes several times without looking down at the brake controller and never hit it with my foot. I also applied the parking brake with no interference.

I didn't like the brake controller moved further back toward the rear of the dash. I couldn't see the readings as well and I also couldn't push the top two buttons or the manual brake lever as easily as I can now.
