Question 2000 LBS of Tile in Bed of Truck?

Hey All,
My father in law wants me to pick up 2000 lbs of tile and put it in the back of my truck....this is for a short haul, about 40 miles...am I going to break anything?

Thanks!

2K has been done before, but I don't know that I would go for it. I wouldn't drive it WOT, but if you're careful it should be ok.

The better solution would be to get a pull-behind trailer, even if you have to rent one.

Would a six inch suspension lift give me a better advantage...looks like Fords website rates the payload at about 1700 lbs....seems kinda close? I also have an extra leaf spring in the back.

Thanks, Txnole !!

The extra leaf spring is a little insurance, yeah.

2000lbs will be no problem at all for your truck. I've done worse things in my F-150.

Oh...it ain't gonna be a walk in the park..you'll know it's there. But you're not going to break anything.

Yup... Most I ever had in my bed was a pallet of sod. Weighed about 1800lbs. Squatted it down a little bit, but didn't have a bit of trouble. Most I've ever towed, well, I have no idea how much a 20' long oak tree weighs (complete with roots and dirt), but I was on my bump stops. So far I've towed heavier loads with my F-150 than I have my F-250...

Want to see 2400# plus some tools in my F150? Mind you... mine is ONLY a V6. Hauled it like it was nothing. Didn't hit the bump stops, surprisingly... I was kind of concerned about my rear tires blowing off though... LOL

Hey hunts, I'm a tile setter by trade and I haul full pallets of tile all the time in my 150. You SHOULDN'T have any problems, but remember, your haulin' alot of weight when you hit your breaks. Give yourself a little braking distance.

I've carried a piano in my Bronco, and that's not the MOST I've hauled. I've never been able to weigh my tool box, but it plus the hitch hauler has to be over 2Kip. The bumpers are pretty hefty, too.

Agreed. Stopping will be the real issue you need concern yourself with. Go slow, slow down before intersections, and keep a good following distance from other vehicles. Most trucks can tow/haul far more load than they can safely stop.

You will be fine, have father in law pay for damages in case. We use to load my dads 94 2wd right up and bottomed out and she is still fine.

I had 2580 pounds of pool sand in my Screw's bed, plus 400 pounds of people and not on the bump stops. I loaded up my 99 Scab to the bumnp stops for 100 miles once, but never weighed it. 2000 pounds of tiles is fine occasionally.
