Figure this, we pulled a 33ft offshore boat weighing at least 11 000lbs on as tri-axle trailer, boat gassed right up too with a v-10 powered F-350 dually, 3 guys and couldn't get passed 50 km/h. That was going up a steep grade in Utah I think or Nevada, up the Rockies anyways. That's our excuse, so what's you're bosses? No need to drive too fast, trust me, same combo doing 85-90 mph, almost jack knifed it. Long story!

 

YeaH, that's not real good if it could only maintain 45 mph. That being said though, I towed my parents 26' pontoon boat which weighs 2000-2500# up to north texas and while I was able to maintain 70-75 mph, that pontoon boat sitting up high in the wind was like a parachute behind me above 50 mph. My jeep and my car hauler 6000# is an easier load to pull because it has less wind drag.

The F450 is legal to 26,000 gross combination. That 23,000lb load only is overweight for even an F550 to carry (26k GCWR) unless its got the severe service package which bumps the GCWR up to 33,000 lbs. The catch is as soon as a vehicle hits 26,001 lbs and heavier and is pulling a trailer a class A CDL is required and USDOT numbers are required to be displayed on the vehicle.

 

i tow a 7000 pound travel trailer no problems going 70.

 

I have been towing a 7500# travel trailer for the past month or so with no problems, except for very steep and long hills. One hill inparticular was about a 35-40 degree incline for over a mile. Pulled fine just kicked it down a gear and held the rpms around 3500.
