first tow in truck

Nothing real remarkable to report but just towed with the new truck for the first time. Its a 5.4 3v w/3.55 lsd w/factory tow pkg. Have installed cold air and better exhaust.

Trailer weighs about 2300lbs. I couldn't even tell it was back there when unloaded. With the car total weight is about 4800 lbs. I knew it was back there because the truck stayed in gear longer but the performance was great. I took the truck out of overdrive while off the hgwy but once up to speed I put it back into overdrive and she was very happy. Granted this is Dallas (read flat) and I kept it at about 65mph.

Overall very impressed. Truck has very happy towing the weight and I got almost no 'feel' that the trailer was even back there. This is what the truck is made to do and it showed. I was planning on setting up my equalizer hitch but now I'm not sure I'll even mess with it. The truck just pulled and managed the weight so nicely.

Going to a 7000lbs loaded enclosed V-nose in the fall/spring. I'm sure that will have a whole different ball game.

I'm towing 6700 lb camper with 35's tires and 3.73 gears. It pulled ok. The farthest i went was 75 miles from pa to ohio for the truck fest in canfield ohio. I drove with overdrive off and tach at 2500 rpm straights and 3500rpms uphills. I know I deeper gears cause of the 35's. that later on mod. It went smooth. When i turned on the overdrive It shifted a lot. so I kept it off.

3500rpm up hills? I take it it shifted down to 2nd in the hills? If not, that's like 97mph, slow down!

You probably should look into some 4.10s or so. With those gears, you'll be turning about 2800rpm at the same speed.

yes it shifted down going up hills I think I was doing 60-65 mph at 3500 rpm. I guess i got to save my pennies for gears. I was thinking about 4.56 gears. I already have xcal2, siso exhaust and AF1 3.5.

I tow a 7000 camper with my truck and until I go to the mountains or try to go over 70 I can leave it overdrive without it searching too much. When you put that 7000lb trailer you gonna want to use the equalizer then.

Yah, I def. plan to use the Equalizer once I get the bigger trailer. Actually, I need to just to be within limits on the class III hitch. I'm glad to hear you are pulling the weight though w/o too much trouble. fortunately, most of my towing is pretty flat down here. I still the 3.55 ring and pinion, it will be interesting to see how it does. Will prob. upgrade in the spring if it just bogs the engine down.

As long as you don't tackle to many steep grades you will be fine. I pulled a 6k-7k (est.) TT into Giant City Park in southern Ill. Lots of steep long grades. 2nd gear at 3500-4000rpm at 45mph up most.

You will definitely need a Weight distribution hitch with that trailer. I have one for sale if you're interested. Drop me a line and let me know. It also has an External sway control. It would be a good match for your trailer.
