If your truck overheats from running 3000 rpm then you've got some problems...

If the converter is locked up, the tranny won't overheat.

Yes, I travel with OD off and no, it doesn't get hot. On a 90 deg day, the trans temp usually goes to 178 and stays there. I turn 2300-2500 RPM's and cruise along. If your not getting the same results then you have a problem, It could be your TC is faulty or your trans cooler isn't up to par. The highest temp on the gauge I have seen to date was 220. THis was on a 7% grade that was 9 miles long. I was in first gear turning 4300 RPM's at 25 MPH. As soon as I got to the top the trans cooled right back down to 178. My TC is locked when is 3rd gear.

well when i was pulling that Trans Am, i started with OD Off, and then cruisin at 3400rpms doin 65 the truck started warming up enough that the fan was coming on, which meant the thermostat was staying open the whole time, so i put OD back on, and went to 2100 and cooled off without the fan being on.

So no i didnt overheat, but it did start getting warmer then i like it to for highway driving when lots of air is being pushed through the radiator.

What gears do you have? Oh and what size tire?

My F-250 unloaded going through Vegas had the fan come on. That was a wonderful 14 mpg time.

5000

I tow an Antigua Hybrid TT which weighs around 5,000 ready to camp. My towing speed is usually 65 MPH. I been up the Rockies from Utah to Denver. There is a long 7 to 8 mile grade I think it was 7 or 8 % just before the Eisenhower Tunnel close to 13,000 ft evolution. No problems keeping up with traffic, in fact I actually was able to accelerate slightly. I got stuck behind a slow moving RV doing around 40 mph and was able to pass him. Got up to 50 MPH before I got to the tunnel.

That was my 2006 F150 crew cab 5.4 V8, 3:73 gears.

If you're cruising at 65 turning 3400 RPM, then something isn't right. My F-150 with 3.55 gears and 265/75/16 tires was turning 3,000 RPM at 77 mph in 3rd (1:1) gear hand calculated. My F-250 with 3.73s hits 3,000 RPM at about 69 - 70

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the question asked was "What's the most weight you have towed?

ive towed a 31 foot edgewater boat with 2 yamaha 250s and 1/2 tank of gas on a 40 foot trailer.

boat with everything aboard ( rods, ice, fresh water tank full, etc) -8000
150 gallons of gas- 900lbs
40 foot trailer- i have no idea

so approximately 10-11000 lbs.

The most i have ever pulled is about 18,000lbs. This was a cotton trailer with hay on it though so the weight wasnt on the truck. The most ever with the weight on the truck was about 10,000lbs. this was hay also. Pulled it at 55-60 with not alot of effort. The brakes didnt want to stop it though.

I just joined the forums today looking for some info on alarm installs and ran across this thread, I couldnt resist. me and two other guys towed this back from Orlando to Louisiana. don't know what the total payload was with the car(car was really heavy, diesel maxima) on the trailer and 3 engines in the back of the truck with spare seats and other misc. the trailer (surge brake) was purchased to tow a 04 john deere tractor with a brush hog on the back. and this ol truck gets to tow it. It's a 93 with the 300ci straight six. truck has 290k miles.
