Is there +12V power at the hitch?

I've had customers ask me where to pick up power when they install their power tailgate system, and I was wondering if Ford has a power lead in the bed somewhere? Would make the install very fast. I know first hand that GM provides one at the hitch.

Thanks,
James

There is +12 volt power at the 7 pole trailer connector, however it is controlled by a relay which turns off the power when the ignition is switched off.

Thank you!
What years have this and is it on all chassis's? Lastly, is it an option or is the harness on all trucks?

The 7 pole trailer connector is usually part of the optional factory tow package and is located near the hitch receiver. They can be added aftermarket also. The relay prevents the trailer from draining the tow vehicle battery while the engine is off and leaving you stranded. I don't think the harness is there if the truck did not come equipped with the tow package from the factory.

The trailer plug harness won't be there if there wasn't a tow package installed but there is a connector from the main truck harness that ends next to the spare tire that will have the wire you need. That wire is orange. It is key switched, meaning it is only hot when the key is turned on like others have posted before.

This wiring will be in all F150's since 1997 and all super duty truck and super duty van platforms since 1999.
